The Department o f Modern Languages The Minor in French & Francophone Studies Faculty Advisor Dr. Bonnie Youngs, Teaching Professor of French & Francophone Studies (byoungs@cmu.edu) Required U nits: 54 Students may double count a maximum of one course taken for the French & Francophone Studies min or that is also being used to fulfill the requirements of other majors , minors, and programs. Prerequisites Elementary - level proficiency in French. This is equivalent to the completion of two 12 - unit courses . E xemption from elementary or intermediate level courses can be awarded based on Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or CMU internal placement test scores. If st udents place out of the intermediate level, then additional courses at the 300 and 400 levels will be required to complete the minor. In al l cases, progress will be accelerated by study abroad, which is highly recommended for all min ors. ( Study abroad advisor - Dr. Sébastien Dubreil, sdubreil @andrew.cmu.edu ) 1 . Complete one required course in Modern Languages. 9 units 82 - 283 Language Diversity and Cultural Identity 2. Complete two courses at the intermediate level . Students placing out of the intermediate level must take two additional content courses at the 300 or 400 levels. 82 - 201 Intermediate 1 18 units 82 - 202 Intermediate 2 3 .
