GED Trivia:Why was the GED Test
initially created?Slide4
After WWII, returning soldiers were required to pass a test before being given their high school equivalency certificates. In 1947 Veteran’s Testing Service (VTS) distributed tests to civilian institutions where veterans applied for college admissions or employment.Between 1959 and 1963 more civilians than veterans were taking the test so VTS changed the name to GED to reflect the shift in test-taking populations.Slide5
