Of the increase of
His
government and peace
There will be

Isaiah 9:6-7Do You Know My Jesus?Slide3
Do You Know My Jesus?Last year we began what would be a series of lessons
This series was designed to be spread out over quite some time
These lessons are centered around Jesus Christ and a better understanding of Him from scripturesSlide4
Do You Know My Jesus? Our previous lessons looked at Jesus in the Old Testament
We looked at Jesus in creation
We looked at the appearances of Christ in the OT
Besides the Christophanies, we also looked at typologySlide5
Do You Know My Jesus? That brings us to continue our study of Christ from the Old Testament
One of the most powerful ways that we see Jesus in the Old Testament is through the many
prophecies
There was always a pointing to the
coming
of Christ in the OTSlide6
PropheciesProphecy is simply the speaking forth of the mind and counsel
of God (beyond the power of humans to see)
Most prophecy we see is
predictive
Much of OT prophecy pointed towards Israel’s future and God’s reaction to the sin of mankindSlide7
PropheciesIt should be no surprise that many of the prophecies of the OT pointed to
Jesus
in some way
These prophecies show us that Jesus was a part of the plans of God from the very beginning
Why are the prophecies so important?Slide8
PropheciesProfessor Peter Stone did some research on the probability of one person fulfilling these prophecies
The chances of Christ fulfilling just
8
are 1 in 100
quadrillion
(1 X 10^17)
These prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that Jesus is the MessiahSlide9
Christ and PropheciesJesus Himself spoke of the prophecies of the OT pointing to Him
“You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me”
(Jn. 5:39)
The OT points to the coming of ChristSlide10
Christ and PropheciesAgain, Jesus pointed to the OT in explaining about Himself
(Lk. 24:27, 44-47)
“I did not come to destroy but to
fulfill
” (Matt. 5:17)
Jesus wanted Israel to
recognize
Him through the proof and evidence of these OT propheciesSlide11
Christ and PropheciesPeter
used the OT prophecy to preach about Christ (Acts 2:25ff; 3:20ff)
These prophecies were there to prove who Christ was
Not only that, but also to show that Christ has been there since the beginning of timeSlide12
Old Testament PropheciesThe
first
prophecy we see concerning Jesus is found all the way back in Genesis 3:15
This occurs directly after Adam and Eve sin in the Garden
The prophecy shows the
victory
Christ would have over SatanSlide13
Old Testament PropheciesGod’s promise to Abraham in Genesis 12:1-3 includes Jesus Christ
The
lineage
and
coming
of Jesus are seen in Jacob’s blessings (Gen. 49:10)
“The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh comes”Slide14
Old Testament PropheciesMoses prophesied about the coming of Jesus in Deuteronomy 18:15-19
The
suffering
of Christ is prophesied about in Psalm 22 and Isaiah 53
Isaiah 7:14 predicts Jesus to be born of a
virgin
and Micah 5:2 points to the birth being in
BethlehemSlide15
Old Testament PropheciesAgain Isaiah speaks of the coming of Christ in 9:6-7 and 11:1-2
Jeremiah heralded the coming of Christ as the one to bring
salvation
(Jer. 23:5-6)
Isaiah 53:11 and Zechariah 13:1 point to the cleansing of our sins by ChristSlide16
Old Testament PropheciesEven the
price
that Jesus would be
betrayed
with was prophesied about in Zechariah 11:12-13
There are hundreds of these prophecies that are found throughout the OT
Learning about Jesus means recognizing Him from the very start
