SHARP Snug Harbor Artist Residency Program SHARP offers emerging artists a supportive environment to explore their creative development for two months. Artists are provided a studio space on the ground �oor of a two-story, nineteenth-century cottage, which has Cultural Center & Botanical Garden in the borough of Staten Island. The facility is connected to the art world of New York City, yet secluded from the urban center by a Harbor. Artists receive studio visits from guest artists and Participants are also encouraged to show recent work in the Center’s galleries or on the grounds. The Residency support for talented, culturally diverse, economically disadvantaged young people who are seriously dedicated to a career in the arts. The Fellowship helps artists in all disciplines at the post-BFA college level to make the transition from formal training to professional careers. ELIGIBILITY Artist must be a New York State resident. Age 30 or under at the time of the Residency. Artist must have a Bachelors of Fine Art degree by the start of their Residency. Students enrolled in an academic institution at the time of their residency are not eligible. Artist must not be represented by a commercial gallery. Please indicate choice #1, #2 and #3: ___ April and May 2015 ___ June and July 2015 ___ August and September 2015 ___ October and November 2015 There are no fees to apply. Applications may be mailed, dropped off or sent via email to newhouse@snug-harbor. org. Digital entries preferred. ALL APPLICANTS MUST SUBMIT THE FOLLOWING: 1. One-page proposal: Answer the following two questions. A. What ideas/subjects do you plan to explore? (100 words or less) B. What is the goal of your residency? (100 words or less) Artists are encouraged to consider the following subjects: history of Staten Island, Snug Harbor’s architecture, social history of Sailors’ Snug Harbor, natural surroundings of the grounds such as the Botanical Garden, the Farm or the waterfront. The jury will give priority to proposals that explore issues concerning nature, the environment and/or sustainability. 2. 10 Images: Images may be submitted as either jpg �les on a disk, 8.5x11” color print outs or emailed as attachments to newhouse@snug-harbor.org.All jpg image �les must be less than 1000x1000 pixels and 72dpi. Image �les must be labeled with artist last name, number corresponding to the image script sheet (Smith_01.jpg, Smith_02.jpg, Smith_03.jpg, etc) Time-based work, video or performance, must be submitted on DVD. Applicants should submit a three-minute excerpt for the jury to review. If a video excerpt is not submitted, the jury will view the �rst three-minutes of footage. 3. Image List: A one-page list numbered 1 to 10 of titles, dates, dimensions (or video running time) and a one- sentence description. 4. Resume: Education, group/solo exhibitions, reviews/press and awards. 5. Two References: Include a telephone number and/or an email address and a one-sentence description of your relationship (curator, mentor, fellow artist, professor, employer, etc).
