Solar Cell Fundamentals Lab
All safety rules to be followed at all times
Full gowning is required when working in the clean room
The clean room will only be available certain times
Students must sign-in and sign out of the clean room for credit
Students must meet the minimum hours per week in the clean
room
Students can work together but each student must fabricate their own solar cellSlide2
Solar Cell Fundamentals Lab
Each student will fabricate their own solar cell
The
traveler must be
strictly followed
and filled out – this is both a record of completed steps and source of processing information for analysis
At key steps in the process, as shown on the traveler, I will need to inspect or verify a completed process
Precisely following the traveler will result in a good solar cell
Each student must fabricate a good solar cell for an “A”Slide3
Traveler exampleSlide4
Solar Cell Fundamentals Lab
All process steps have procedures listed and available on the web site
Students are expected to be able to do clean room processes from these procedures ( with help from myself or the TA)
By the second fabrication, students are expected to do all processes without helpSlide5
6 cm x 6 cm solar cell fabricated in the Cameron clean room
Bus bars need to be thickerSlide6
Solar Cell Fundamentals Lab
The first cells must be completed
in
5-6
weeks from the start
You must fabricate and test an acceptable solar cell and have it verified by me
At key steps in the process, as shown on the traveler, I will need to inspect or verify a completed process
Slide7
Solar Cell Fundamentals Lab
A completed and accurately filled out traveler will be submitted at the end of the first cell fabrication for grade
A second solar cell fabrication will be done varying one key fabrication element to see if it improves performance.
The final report will detail the fabrication, results, and comparison of the two fabrication runs.
