Almost a dozen combined de-airing extrusion machines have been develo ped by us since 2002. The rapidity of our programme ex pansion has enabled us to incorporate the latest research findings in terms of extrusion technique, material science, sensors, tribology and control engi neering into our designs. We shall continue to extend and com plement

our programme in a targeted manner in the years to come. All our combined de-airing extrusion machines are based on a modular design principle, which facilitates practice-orientated solutions to suit highest demands. Combined De-Airing Extrusion Machines VALR 50 This is our smallest and lowest-priced de-airing extrusion unit available at the present moment, designed for a medium range of pressure rates and for such applications where only very small quantities of test samples are to be handled. Feeding of the VALR 50 can be accomplished either manu ally or by a pneumatically-actuated cylinder.

The VAHRS 120 series of de-airing extrusion machines are standard- setters in the industry featuring the horizontal primary pug sealer fitted in a cascadearrangement. The transparent vacuum chamber allows a direct observation of the process inside the vacuum chamber. Again for this machine a range of options and specific wear reduction solutions can be offered, in particular auger segments of ceramic or hard metal for handling abrasive

small section honey combs as used for DPF (diesel parti cu late filters) or catalytic converters; over recent years we have experienced and been able to utilize very positive results. As a result of the feeding de vice being driven separately and ope rating on the basis of the ECT -30/70 system, the degree of material feed can be controlled in an optimum manner. The extruder auger can be supplied in monolithic or seg mented version. Selective tempering of the de-airing extrusion unit can be achie ved by the adoption of up to 7 parallel cooling circuits. A de-airing extrusion machine of linear

assembly configuration, i.e. with integrated vacuum chamber which is kept free with the aid of a “clearing”-auger, this unit lends itself to the extrusion of slabs and small billets as well as those profiles which do not require high extrusion pressure rates. Globally the most modern combined de-airing extrusion machine for hori zontal extrusion of ceramic bodies which necessitate high pressure rates. Featuring state-of-the-art sensor tech nology:besides the essential ope rating parameters such as current consumption, pressure rate and tem perature readings at various points, the vacuum,

control of vacuum and column speed, the length of back pressure of the auger can also be moni tored online. As an option this combined de-airing extrusion unit can be supplied with 200 mm barrel diameter. These options can be complemented by specially-designed automatic control engineering. Specially-designed assembly aids assist in reducing the time required for maintenance and cleaning to a minimum. New hard-facing techniques such as the “LaTex” hard-facing method employed by our partner firm 3S and new polishing methods to achieve the optimum roughness level of the auger surface complement

other manifold features. The VAHRS 250 provides a good example of the comprehensive system competence of ECT This type VAVRS 250 de-airing extru der was designed for vertical extrusion of honeycombs, bulk catalysts or other extrudates for which a vertical extrusion method offers benefits in terms of process tech nology. It can be provided optionally with barrels of 250 mm or 200 mm in diameter and can be combined with the de-airing proportioning strainer DPD 200 or with a horizontal prima ry pug sealer. Designed on the basis of the ECT concept for high-efficiency combined de-airing extrusion

units, i.e. analogi cal to the configuration of our VAHRS 120, 160 and 250 series, this de-airing extrusion machine is intended for the extrusion of medium size profiles, e.g. for the production of DENOX-honeycombs. As an option this de-airing extrusion unit can also be supplied with a barrel diameter of 300 mm. Designed for the extrusion of honey combs up to a diameter of 300 mm in a 2 or 3-stage configuration, i.e. with upstream kneader and double de- airing, this combined de-airing extru sion machine demonstra tes its excep tional position in terms of technology; we produce this machine

under licen ce from Messrs. HAENDLE GmbH. Jointly with other R&D partners we have designed this VAHRS 500 com bined de-airing extrusion machine for our produc tion partner BMS-KEMA. Universally one of the largest and most efficient de-airing extrusion units this machine is suitable for the production of large size honeycombs with diameters exceeding 300 mm. Depending on the requirements to be met this VAHRS 500 unit can be equipped with the latest sensor tech nology. The VAHRS 500 machine is manu fac tured and supplied by our partner firm BMS-KEMA. We have broken completely new ground in

designing the VAHRS 950 extrusion unit for the production of large size solid and hollow slugs for insulators; a new direction made possible by experience gained over many years both in respect of concept as well as in detail. Different options are possible for the feeding of the augers as well as for the zone-related cooling of theextruder body, of the barrels or traction assembly.
