Constant Divine Communion

Discourse of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, Prashanti Nilayam , 23rd Jul 1971

Slide2

World – Product of the mind

Universe itself is manifested from the idea of the Divine mind. Its idea was “Ekoham Bahusyam” meaning “I am one, let me become many”.

Slide3

Mind gets contaminated

Through:Desires AttachmentAngerWisdom While the contaminations of the mind help us in the survival process, they divert us from realizing the unity and divinity. Swamy says there is no illness worse than desire, no foe fiercer than attachment, no fire as ravenous as anger and no ally reliable as wisdom.

Slide4

Understand mind’s

game

If we see in depth, mind prompts man for

Sukha

(happiness) , in actuality it is comfort

not happiness and avoid

Duka

(misery).

Why

?

Because in

Dukha

the individual has to perform more work and work laboriously.

Slowly in enslaves the individuals to senses and their fancies cannot escape calamity.

Slide5

How to tame the mind

Plant seeds of virtue and equanimity. We need a realized master to hold our hands for this.

Decontaminate the mind so that it can turn away from senses and turn towards

Buddhi

(discriminative intelligence)

Follow disciplines or laid rules

Breath work and meditation, this is the most easy as we focus on our bodily tools to achieve this.

Slide6

Mode of Meditation

Meditation is not a part time exercise.Characteristics of true meditationIt should be a continuous processIt should charge you with nectar of universal love

It should be enhanced by study of sacred books and scriptures

It should prompt you to seek counsel of

sages

When we direct our meditation

as said above,

mind-stuff is rendered as an instrument of liberation rather than being a shackle that binds.

Slide7

Desires come in between God and Us

Desires? What is their nature? They are momentary urges. Once satiated, the thing desired becomes disgusting. If we have them while approaching God we stand at the risk of losing faith. When you seek God’s help having desires in mind you are at a risk of loosing faith when they don’t get fulfilled.Swamy

says: Develop love that asks for no return.

Slide8

Gateway to Gods glory lies everywhere

Simple rules:

See unity

everywhere

Doing

so we can win HIS grace and a spark of that

grace

destroys that which causes fame and blame, joy and

grief etc

.

Don’t worry about

temporary

trifles and tribulations

Don’t

exaggerate inconveniences they cause. Bear them with courage and smile

Aim at the highest goal though victory may seem distant and difficult

Highest

goal is to achieve status of immortality. In actuality we are immortal. Just we need to be aware of that fact. When this awareness dawns on us realization happens

To

practice the above rules opportunities are everywhere and when we start practicing every minute that is meditation.

Slide9

Invest yourself fully in meditation

Swamy Says “Dhyana is a full time endeavor. Invest yourself fully in it”How? “Do our

sadhanas

every minute by the prescribed rules and we will realize that we are a temple of GOD”

Use all social, cultural, spiritual and moral facets to immerse fully into meditation

Slide10

All activity originates

from a common source:

GOD

Live in the consciousness of God and His message of truth

(Rama’s life gives us a lot of this message. He endured abandonment, separation, blame, criticism with equanimity)

How can we achieve this?

By transforming ourselves and this transformation is the real publicity for God.

Swamy

clearly says don’t get entangled in rituals and ceremonials. They are there just to give ambience. Real transformation is being in God consciousness with or without the ambience.

Slide11

Fill your

heart with God not you:Swamy explains that Ego plays tricks. When ego gets pricked to nothingness then we are filled with GOD.

The yearning should be to fill ourselves with God. The heat of yearning can be measured by yardsticks of

Virtue

Serenity

Fortitude

Equanimity

The yard sticks can be hold

or acquired by

Aathma

Jnaana

. (Knowledge that can be attained by

Buddi

)

Our normal approach of

Jnaana

is through mind, Mano

Jnaana

, utilizing senses. This is always incomplete and incoherent

.

Mano

Jnaana

informs that you and GOD are different

.

Aatham

Jnaana

makes you realize that you and GOD are one.

Slide12

Accommodate all forms of God in your heart.

When we practice utilizing all facets to see and realize God , we start seeing God in all forms slowly we can experience God.

This

practice leads us to

Forbearance:

Opens us to bear those who adore God in different forms and ways

Compassion:

Opens us to be able to include everyone in our circles

Tolerance:

Opens us to be able to love all

And be an instrument of Gods will.

Slide13

How to be an instrument of Gods will?

Practice of below will help us achieve being instrument of Gods will.

Be calm , unruffled and serene

Be unaffected by good fortune or bad fortune (God pulls the strings though the strings are in out hand)

Be pleasant in speech and manner

Do not inflict injury or insult others

Do not act on any adverse acts or remarks by others

Be eager to confer consolation and courage

Be anxious to be of help

Snatch each opportunity to expand the horizons of love

Slide14

Conclusion

Fill every moment with energy, enthusiasm and effortUse Social, cultural, spiritual and moral facets to get immersed in himExpect God to come to you in all formsLove and respect all forms as you don’t know when and in which form God can come to you

That is Communion with God.

Slide15

Time to share

“Can you describe an incident or experience in your life where GOD has appeared in a form most unexpected and helped you ?”OR“Can you describe an experience where you felt GOD was playing with you and telling you something with your internal feelings or emotions?”

Slide16

Appendix

Slide17

Swamy

Says The experiences you shared reinforce your communion with GOD. Just remembering them will ensure you that HE is there with you all the time. Thank you for sharing.

Slide18

Social, Cultural, Spiritual, moral all indicate only facets of His vision

Social

: Service is social act and is an expression of acceptance of Divine present in all members of the human community

Culture

: Culture is actually the nature of mind tuned in a way so that the spirit when it blossoms find

kindered

spirits everywhere (ex: mingling with same region or same taste people is more free than others)

Morality

: Highest expression of truth. What is this truth? Truth is “UNITY”

Slide19

Who can set limits to the freedom of GOD?

Swamy takes a sidetrack here to explain the attributes of GOD to reinforce the knowledge that we can see God everywhere in all forms. Can our limited

human

form set limits to the freedom of God

?

God can come in form of dog, beggar , fox , in any form.

God is

Saguna

(with attributes) and

Nirguna

( without attributes)

Nirguna

is the base upon which

Saguna

was conceived

Slide20

Emerge from Meditation more charged with love

Whatever Swamy

has explained so far are

ways we can immerse ourselves in HIM and reinforce our knowledge that we are one

playing the game of

duality

This is

Adhwaitha

(not

two concept)

inspite

of the appearance of two

To earn this state of consciousness LOVE alone is the path.

Question

is how to love others when we have all our survival mechanisms acting up?

Through

Aathma

Jaana

and

Sadhana

that lead us to devotion and increase

the depths of

devotion.

Slide21

How can we achieve devotion

Shravanam is the first step. What can be more soothing than shravanam of music and that too music with emotion.

That’s where

bhajans

come into picture

.

Even if

raaga

or

taala

is not accurate if there is emotion in the song it moves you. What is that that is GOD.

Bhajan

spreads good will, love and

ecstacy

. It will clean the polluted atmosphere.
