The Cretan civilization.

The largest island of the Aegean sea is the island of Crete. It is on the island of Crete 6 000 years BC the first farmers settled and there was the Cretan civilization.Slide2

In Crete there were four States. The center of each of them was a large Palace on the territory of which lived the king, the priests, court nobles, and numerous servants. Palaces were developed around agriculture and trade, there were many skilled craftsmen and artists, some of the inhabitants of Crete were able to read and write.Slide3

It was a volcanic eruption on the nearby island of Thera

. After the eruption the island was captured by the tribes, which were called the Mycenaeans. Cretan-Minoan civilization suffered damage after the eruption .Slide4

But then began to settle by the Greeks from the mainland to Crete.

Today Crete is one of 13 regions of Greece. By 2005, the population of Crete was 650 thousand people. The island thrives on tourism and winemaking..
