1. The impact of the Texas abortion ban on gestational age at time of abortion in a large volume Colorado Clinic Eva Dindinger MPH, Kate Coleman-Minahan PhD, RN, FNP-BC, Jeanelle Sheeder MSPH, PhD, Nancy Fang MD, MSUniversity of Colorado School of Medicine, Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology; University of Colorado College of Nursing Background Abortion care is an essential common medical procedure that continues to be threatened in certain areas of the United States. As of November 2022, 43 states prohibit abortion at a certain point in pregnancy and 14 states have eliminated abortion services. On September 1st, 2021, Texas Legislators passed Senate Bill 8 (SB8) a law which prohibits and criminalizes abortion after cardiac activity can be detected. Due to this law, Texans have been forced to seek care outside of their home state, including in the state of Colorado. Objective: To assess changes in gestational age at time of abortion, rates of 2nd trimester abortions, the proportion of Texas residents, and the changes in distance after Texas passed Senate Bill 8 (SB8) . Methods Distance Traveled for Out-of-State Residents Discussion In this study, we observed changes in 2nd trimester abortions after Texas passed SB8. The changes also affected Colorado residents. People living in Texas have been forced to travel to Colorado for care. The continued abortion bans will likely delay care for Colorado residents and force people living in restrictive states to seek care outside of their home states. Results Conflicts of Interest References https://www.guttmacher.org/state-policy/explore/overview-abortion-lawsSeptember 1, 2021We assessed 4,793 abortions preformed between January 2018-June 2020 and created two groups:Before SB8 (January 2018 – August 2021) After SB8 (September 2021-June 2022)We compared the proportions of procedures before and after SB8 using chi-square tests used logistic regression models to determine independent predictors of 2nd trimester abortions.
