Hello … We are the Watt Public School Council and we are looking for help with our spring fundraising event. On Saturday May 2 4 th 2014 we are holding our second eve r Soapbox Derby Fun D ay. The day is centered on a dults, kids and b usinesses building their own soapbox racers and coming out to enter races held on our flat track course. The funds raised from the day go to our School Council funding essential needs for th e school year ( l ike bussing costs and sports equipment). We are a small rural school whic h makes a big impact in our diverse community so get building or warm up your best cheering lungs for a cracker of a day. Here’ s where we need your help… Donations - F rom now un til the event we are looking for donations towards a silent auction tabl e, and spot prizes for competit ors on the day. Straw bales are needed for the track outline … we would really like to just borrow some so contact us if you can help. Wheels a re needed … All the kids are pumped up and desperate to build a rocket of a soapbox racer, but we need wheels so if you have an old lawnmower or an old BMX or three … give us a call. Sponsor - At the grassroots level you could sponsor a kids building effor t … or lend some expertise. For a more highbrow corporate level, each race class will need a sponsor who will have naming rights for their race class (Kids Age groups, Adult/Child Team, Adult/Adult, Corporate/Bu siness Race, Show ’n’ Shine parade… y ou name it !) . Prices are by donation … be as charitable as you feel. Advertise - The course will be a large flat oval track laid out using used car tires and straw bales … we need sponsors/advertisers for the outside of the track … think NASCAR … Muskoka Style ! So we will be selling advertising space per bale used … We provide the space , you use it how you want ( adverts on wooden stake s pushed into the bales work g reat). $10/bale used … contact us to reserve your space. Build and Participate – Build a racer your self and enter the races . Challenge others , or let us rent out your racer on the day. The only rules are these … 1. This is a team event … two in a team … one pushes the other steers… two lap races … pilot and pusher must swap at the halfway mark. 2. All partici pants must be wearing a helmet for safety. 3. Soapbox Racer must have a minimum of three wheels (remember - springtime grass conditions), be steerable, and must fit within a 4’ x 8’ rectangle. 4. Mustn’t pose a safety risk to racers … organisers reserve the right to dictate what is safe or not on the day so just use common sense … That means the swords on the wheels must come off your racer Mrs.Evans … rules are rules ! 5. Costumes encouraged … watch a few Red Bull Soapbox Derby Races on youtube .com if you’re stuck fo r ideas … just keep in mind … our races are flat - track not downhill and are child friendly!! Spot prizes on the day for enthusiasm … Mostly we just want to have fun and raise some funds for the kids.
