Types of subjects Noun: Cairo is the capital of Egypt.Pronoun: She speaks English well.Gerund: Swimming is good for health.Infinitive: To finish the work today is difficult.Phrase: The man sitting in the room is my friend.Clause: That she worked hard pleased her teacher.
Arabic simple sentence Arabic divides sentences into two categories depending on the nature of the first word in the sentence.Sentences whose first word is a noun or noun phrase are termed جمل اسمية ‘nominal sentences,’ and Sentences whose initial word is a verb are termed جمل فعلية or ‘verbal sentences.’
The English term “equational sentence” is used to refer to verbless predications. The term “verbal sentence” refers to predications that contain a verb.

الخبر من صور الخبر: أن يكون مفردًا، مثل هذا محمدٌ. أن يكون جملة اسمية، مثل: محمد والده معلمُ.أن يكون جملة فعلية، مثل: محمد يكتب الدرس. أن يكون شبه جملة، مثل: أحمدٌ في الحديقة.
Equational sentence جملة اسمية لا تحتوى على فعل The structure of equational sentences (some examples) (1) Noun/adjective: الطريق طويل The road [is] long.(2) Noun phrase/adjective: قصر الملك ضخم The king’s palace [is] huge.(3) Pronoun/adjective or adjective phrase: هو ذكي He [is] intelligent, هي أمريكية من أصل عربي She [is] an American of Arab origin.(4) Pronoun/noun: نحن عرب We [are] Arabs.
الجملة الفعلية Subject as verb inflection only الفاعل ضمير متصل عادقرأتُ القصةHe returnedI read the storySpecification of noun subject When a subject noun or noun phrase is specified, it usually follows the verb andis in the nominative case. The verb agrees with the specified subject in gender
