Fleeing Sexual Immorality

Avoid HomosexualitySlide2

God’s Saints

Set apart to serve God. 1 Peter 2:9, 10

Saints live differently. 1 Cor. 1:2; 2 Cor. 1:1; 7:1; Eph. 5:3, 4

B

egins with the mind (Rom. 12:1) and extends to every facet of our lives, but we will focus on sexual behavior. Eph. 5:3-5

Sanctification means abstain from sexual immorality. 1

Thes

. 4:3-7

Flee sexual immorality. 1 Cor.

6:18Slide3

Homosexuality and the Bible

Created them male and female. Matt. 19:4, 5

Law of Moses. Lev. 18:22; 20:13

Vile, shameful, unnatural. Rom. 1:26, 27

Keeps people from the kingdom of God. 1 Cor. 6:9, 10

Condemned in 1 Timothy 1:9, 10.Slide4

Homosexuality Today

Has become more accepted.

Frequently told that 1 in 10 is gay.

More likely around 3%.

Same sex marriages; domestic partner benefits.

Promoted by the entertainment industry.

Tolerated by many Protestant churches.

A majority under 30 are accepting of it.Slide5

“Defenses” of Homosexuality

Can’t fault someone for how they are born.

Most (if not all) are not born that way.

They can and have changed. 1 Cor. 6:11

The sin is not in the SSA, but in acting on it. Many have OSA, but cannot act on it.

Not excusing lustful thinking/wishing/hoping. Matt. 5:27, 28Slide6

“Defenses” of Homosexuality

The Bible condemns homosexual rape and prostitution, but not a loving, committed gay relationship.

Rom. 1:26, 27 Would have been natural if a man and a woman.

Nothing in 1 Cor. 6:9 suggests prostitution or violence.Slide7

“Defenses” of Homosexuality

Unloving to condemn them or deny them the right to marry.

Does love view them like animals who cannot control their base desires? Or does love see them as made in God’s image and able to choose?

I love them and want them to be saved. 1 Cor. 6:9-11

We can and must offer hate—not hope.Slide8

Some Thoughts on Homosexuality

Don’t ever even begin to experiment with these unnatural practices. 1 Cor. 6:18

Don’t allow culture to change your thinking. Rom. 12:2; 1 Cor. 15:33

Mothers and fathers: Be present, and be loving and nurturing examples of what men and women should be. Eph. 5, 6

Know that this sin can be overcome. 1 Cor. 6:11Slide9

Conclusion

As God’s saints we must resist the thinking of our age.

These sins are vile and unnatural, but committed by those for whom Christ died.

Let’s help them see the better way.

Whatever your sin, won’t you be rid of it?
