DescriptionIn the lithograph, “Relativity” by M.C Escher there is a lot of medium with pencil which he ahs considered to be a masterpiece of teqnique. One of the main elements that Escher used to make this lithograph was lines with the bodies and the stairs. In the image, you can tell that Escher used a lot of contour lines that went different directions and to make them look better he shaded them to make them look more realistic. Escher showed value in the lithograph to show which way the light sources went in the image. The design and composition that Escher used were both theoretical and geometric.Slide4
ExampleIn the lithograph “Relativity” I can see a lot of stairs going to different doors.. In the lithograph, the people are going to different places around the block and everywhere they go they are a different character. Also, when you really look at the image you can notice that the stairs are like a maze and the people are trying to find their way out of it. Slide5
AnalysisIn the lithograph, Escher analyzed movement by different people walking down different stairs. In the relativity, Escher included pattern by making the stairs go up and down with the different people walking on them in different directions. If you look at the lithograph, you can see that the pattern repeats on the top, bottom, and in the middle of the image. Also, Escher created a lot of repetition by making the stairs, people, and the doors go different directions each time. Escher emphasized the stairs by making them go backwards, forwards, and even side ways along the way.Slide6
InterpretationThe 3-D lithograph that M.C Escher created makes me feel like he was trying to make the people and the stairs look more realistic and lively compared to drawing them normal and flat. When I am looking at the lithograph I feel like I am one of the people in the sculpture. That is how all artworks should be because it gets the observer excited . When I am looking at the lithograph, I feel like I am in an unusual world with upside down stairways and people walking in different ways. From what I know, M.C Escher likes to draw a lot of lithographs and 3-D figures. I feel that M.C Escher was trying to make the people looking at his artwork feel like they are tight there in the scene of the sculpture walking backwards up and down the stairs. I thought Escher was trying to symbolize gravity in a way because there are lots of people walking up walls, leaning against the stairs, and even standing upside down.

Judgment In my opinion, I think that “Relativity” by M.C Escher was a success. The reason why it is a success is because the lithograph is something that you don’t normally see in real life paintings. This shows that he used a lot of his imagination when he was working on this piece. The style that Escher was trying to portray in this piece was style that was unusual for any artist to see. I also think that Escher wanted to wow the people looking at his artwork and make them want to admire his artwork. I think that this piece is very unique in many ways because it something that I have never seen in the real world before or on any other artworks
before. And that is what makes it unique. I think that the 3-D figures and dimensions that Escher put in his artwork were mind-blowing to me.
