It’s great fun to play around with sophisticated words that are not normally used in everyday conversation.

Next is a collection

of phrases, written in “snooty” language, but offering some good, sound advice. Match each sophisticated phrase with its contemporary, vernacular translation. Write the number of each “snooty” phrase next to its matching translation in ordinary language.
