Classical physics is deterministic!. If you know where you started you know where you are going. Randomness:. Quantum randomness is truly random and unpredictable. A lot of randomness is actually complexity and uncertainty. Dan Hampton and Wolfgang Christian. Abstract. The double pendulum provides an ideal system in which to study chaotic motion. The system is relatively simple, but an infinitesimally small change in the initial conditions of the pendulum produces a drastically different trajectory for energies that exhibit chaotic motion. I use a phase-space plot, a Poincaré section, and a 3D trace to graphically represent the pendulum’s motion. The simulation allows for the initial energy and the masses on each pendulum to vary. The Feldberg eighth order numerical method serves as the algorithm for computing the motion. The program shows the energies at which the motion becomes chaotic while sometimes still exhibiting quasiperiodic trajectories, and it quantitatively demonstrates the unpredictability of this simple system. . This chapter introduces the ideal constant jerk S-curve (jerk is the derivative of acceleration), represented by a 2. nd. order polynomial in velocity. Its shape is governed by the motion conditions at the start and end of the transition.. . Natalia Storch, Kassandra Anderson & Dong Lai. Cornell University. Proving that . . In section 2.1 you used a table of values approaching 0 from the left and right that . ; but that was not a proof. Because you will need to know this limit (and a related one for cosine), we will begin this section by proving this through geometry. Transport. from a "Ruffled" Separatrix.
