The basic anatomy of the heart and its conduction system is presented first and then followed by specific procedures for setting up and running equipment. Other topics include lead systems, identifying rhythms, quality assurance, and continual quality improvement. Supplements Instructor\'s Manual 0-7668-0487-9 ECG: ESSENTIALS OF ELECTROCARDIOGRAPHY is designed to help you understand the fundamental knowledge and skills necessary to successfully perform an ECG. Its concise yet comprehensive coverage includes instruction on the anatomy of the heart, electrophysiology of the heart, and ECG basics. To prepare you for completing ECGs in the field, this student-friendly text presents a combination of introductory cardiovascular anatomy, relationships of other body systems to heart health, need-to-know legal and ethical considerations, patient assessment techniques, instructions on how to complete and document ECGs, and basic interpretation of the ECG tracing. Call-outs point out material you should memorize, while Quick Checks help you test your comprehension as your progress through the text. In addition, thorough coverage of objectives you must master to qualify to sit for the National Healthcareer Association\'s (NHA) EKG Technician Certification exam are included throughout. This pocket handbook for third- and fourth-year medical students and non-orthopedic clinicians is a quick, problem-focused tool for evaluating patients with musculoskeletal disorders. It teaches students basic orthopedic exam skills needed for many clinical rotations, and guides primary care and emergency/urgent care practitioners in initial evaluation of musculoskeletal problems. The consistent chapter format includes exam basics, orthopedic pearls, range of motion, specific muscles and their evaluation, and illustrated techniques for specific exams. A Quick Look feature briefly summarizes pertinent tests for each anatomical area. The book includes 120 drawings by the author, 39 x-rays, and numerous references for further information. Basic and Bedside Electrocardiography is the first book to integrate the basics of ECG interpretation with the most recent clinical guidelines for treating patients with ECG abnormalities. Each concise, bulleted chapter discusses a disease state, gives many tracings as examples, provides clear illustrations of pathophysiology, and offers guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of specific entities. More than 600 illustrations aid readers in recognizing commonly encountered ECG abnormalities. Diagrammatic illustrations at the end of most chapters summarize the different ECG abnormalities discussed, to help readers recognize the different arrhythmias more easily. An appendix provides quick-reference information on commonly used intravenous agents. This module briefly covers the history of the ECG. The basic anatomy of the heart and its conduction system is presented first and then followed by specific procedures for setting up and running equipment. Other topics include lead systems, identifying rhythms, quality assurance, and continual quality improvement. Supplements Instructor\'s Manual 0-7668-0487-9 Family physicians are often the first, and sometimes the only, point of contact for many patients within the health care system. The standard 12-lead electrocardiogram is one of the most common tests obtained and interpreted by the family physician, with most of the physicians reading their own recordings and basing clinical decisions on their findings. It has been shown that family physicians can achieve proficiency in the interpretation of over 95 percent of all electrocardiogram findings seen in the primary care setting. Although computerized interpretation is widely available, it is considered unreliable in up to 20 percent of the cases, making competency and interpretation by family physicians an essential skill. This book provides the necessary skills for family physicians to use in interpreting electrocardiograms, both in their offices and in the emergency rooms of their hospitals. It also should prove of value to other primary care physicians, as well as medical students and residents of nearly all medical specialties. As the subtitle states, this book is about the essential elements involved in electrocardiographic interpretation. It is not all inclusive. However, it does cover the abnormalities most likely to be seen by family physicians in their everyday practice of medicine. Electrocardiography for Health Care Personnel provides ECG skills training for health care students as well as health care personnel who are interested in mastering additional skills. The text includes the essential skills needed to perform an ECG, including anatomy of the heart, basic characteristics, equipment, appropriate intervention, and other technical applications, such as Holter monitoring and stress testing. Emphasis throughout the text is placed on troubleshooting.
