Computing is transforming how we interact with music New theories and new technologies have emerged that present fresh challenges and novel perspectives for researchers and practitioners in music and humancomputer interaction HCI In this collection the interdisciplinary field of music interaction is considered from multiple viewpoints designers interaction researchers performers composers audiences teachers and learners dancers and gamersnbspThe book comprises both original research in music interaction and reflections from leading researchers and practitioners in the field It explores a breadth of HCI perspectives and methodologies from universal approaches to situated research within particular cultural and aesthetic contexts Likewise it is musically diverse from experimental to popular classical to folk including tango laptop orchestras composition and free improvisation. Action. IEEE International Workshop on Human Computer Interaction in conjunction with ICCV 2005, Beijing, China, Oct. 21, 2005 for a variety of applications. We discuss affective computer interaction, issues Ubiquitouscomputing has a vision of information and interaction being embedded in theworld around us this forms the basis of this book. Built environments aresubjects of design and architects have seen digital elements incorporated intothe fabric of buildings as a way of creating environments that meet the dynamicchallenges of future habitation. Methods forprototyping interactive buildings are discussed and the theoretical overlapsbetween both domains are explored. Topics like the role of space and technologywithin the workplace as well as the role of embodiment in understanding howbuildings and technology can influence action are discussed as well as investigating the creation of place with new methodologies toinvestigate the occupation of buildings and how they can be used to understandspatial technologies. Architectureand Interaction is aimed at researchers and practitioners in the field of computing who want togain a greater insight into the challenges of creating technologies in thebuilt environment and those from the architectural and urban design disciplineswho wish to incorporate digital information technologies in future buildings. This bookcombines work from curators digital artists human computer interactionresearchers and computer scientists to examine the mutual benefits andchallenges posed when working together to support digital art works in theirmany forms. In Curating the Digitalwe explore how we can work together to make space for art and interaction. Welook at the various challenges such as the dynamic nature of our media theproblems posed in preserving digital art works and the thorny problems of howwe assess and measure audience8217s reactions to interactive digital work. Curating the Digital is an outcome of a multi-disciplinary workshop that took place atSICHI2014 in Toronto. The participants from the workshop reflected on the themeof Curating the Digital via a series of presentations and rapid prototypingexercises to develop a catalogue for the future digital art gallery. Theresults produce a variety of insights both around the theory and philosophy ofcurating digital works and also around the practical and technicalpossibilities and challenges. We present these complimentary chapters so thatother researchers and practitioners in related fields will find motivation andimagination for their own work.
