Sure - Grip uses the "A" rating when giving a wheel its hardness rating. There are several different ways to measure the hardness of a material, 12 in fact. The most common are "A" and "D.” "A" is used for softer material and "D" for harder material. In roller - skating the higher the number , the harder the wheel. Outdoor w heels typically are between 78A - 88A, indoor wheels are typically between 90A - 100A. What type of material are your wheels made out of? We use a material called Poly BD in our Fugitive, Power, Power Plus, and Interceptor wheels; its a material that was d eveloped 20 years ago but just seems to work the best in roller skating. It’s a material that has high rebound, good grip, and good wear. There are two easy ways to tell if a wheel is truly made from Poly BD. One, the material has a distinct smell, in a way it smells bad. Two, tiny bubbles or holes will appear throughout the wheel. What’s the hardness of my wheels? Sure - Grip offers many different types of wheels; each was manufactured for a specific purpose. With this in mind it is important to note that the hardness number alone does not necessarily mean that the wheel will be that soft or that hard. But to answer the question; Fugitive wheels: Black, Blue, Pink, and Red are 92A; Purple is 94A; Green is 96A. Interceptor: Black, Pink, Blue, Red, Ye llow are 93A: Purple, Green are 97A Power Plus: Same as Interceptor What’s the difference between the metal hub and plactic hub? Sure - Grip offers 3 wheels that feature an aluminum hub; they are the Power, Power Plus, and the Interceptor. All our other whe els feature a nylon hub. The difference is simple; one is harder than the other, which will in turn make the wheel itself feel harder. A wheel that is 95A will feel harder on an aluminum hub than on a nylon hub. What wheel should I use for Roller Derby? The wheel of choice in Roller Derby is the Fu gitive wheel. The smaller nylon hub allows for more urethane to be poured around the hub, thus giving a softer feel. Among skaters the color of choice is the Blue Fugitive which is the softer of the colors.
