Welcome to Queen AnneMedical ElectrolysisSlide2
What is Electrolysis?
It’s a method of permanent hair removal
It’s the only method of hair removal that’s FDA approved
It can be done on any area of the body. As long as we can see the hair, we can remove it.Slide3
How is Electrolysis Done?
We insert a delicate sterile probe into the hair follicle
We apply a tiny amount of electric current to the follicle
The hair is gently removed (not plucked) with tweezers.Slide4
We keep you safe…
By adhering to national standards established by the American
Electrology
Association and the Center for Disease Control.
We autoclave (sterilize) our tweezers on site.
We use pre-sterilized, single use, disposable probes; disposable non-Latex examination gloves; freshly laundered linens and careful hand washing procedures.Slide5
What Method of Electrolysis is Used?
At Queen Anne Medical Electrolysis, we use the “Blend Method,”
Combining
Thermolysis
– Alternating Current which destroys the hair follicle by heat,
And the Galvanic Method – Direct Current which causes a chemical destruction of the follicle.Slide6
Does it hurt?
For some people, no
For others, YES!
The sensation may feel like heat or stinging
Some areas of the body are very sensitive, e.g., the upper lip
But we can use prescription strength numbing medication to help you.Slide7
You can help yourself by…
Drinking plenty of water before and after electrolysis treatments
Limit your caffeine intake, particularly coffee and black tea which can dehydrate you.Slide8
How many treatments will I need?
This is determined by many factors:
The length of your treatments (15 minutes to 90 minute sessions are common)
Frequency of treatments (weekly recommended)
Location, volume, texture of your hair
Temporary methods of hair removal used in the past
Your skin’s reaction to treatment
And, of course, your personal goals for hair removal!Slide9
Will the hair grow back?
Hairs treated in the
Anagen
Phase will be eliminated, or at least weakened – growing back lightly, and permanently removed at a later session
Hairs that are
under the skin surface
will be treated at a later visit – when we can see them, and that may take several weeks.Slide10
How will my skin look and feel right after treatment?
Here are common reactions:
Mild swelling or puffiness
Erythema (pinkness)
Warmth
Slight burning or stinging
Small red spots on treatment areas.
BUT ALL OF THESE CAN BE HELPED BY ICE PACKS, 1% CORTISONE CREAM, OR ALOE LOTION!Slide11
And we will give you a page of
thorough
aftercare instructions
before you leave.Slide12
What are my other options?
Method of Hair Removal
Tweezing
Waxing
Sugaring
Mechanical Plucking
Bleaching
Shaving
Electronic Tweezers
Depilatories (chemical)
Possible Disadvantages
Temporary – go on indefinitely, and may even stimulate growth
Can cause ingrown and infected hair follicles
Can be irritating to skinSlide13
What about laser?
Laser is not FDA approved as a method for permanent hair removal, and
Laser
cannot
remove hairs that are blond, red, white, or gray.Slide14
We hope we can be of help!
