CANDO July 25th, 2018 Presentation What your TAED certification has done for you in your career. How it made your job easier because you had that educational background to help you through. Lorraine White Technician Aboriginal Economic Developer (TAED) To earn the Technician Aboriginal Economic Developer, candidate (student in the process) must demonstrate 11 Competencies that can be earned either through post-secondary study (delivered through an accredited program - universities and colleges across Canada), course by course match up and/or through Cando Assessment to measuring past learning and experience. CANDO 11 Competencies Aboriginal Law & Policies Organizational & Financial Management Governance & Leadership Economics Sustainable Environment & Land Stewardship Lands & Resource Management Project Management Community Planning and Development Community-Based Aboriginal Economic Development Contemporary Aboriginal Economic Development Aboriginal Business Development & Entrepreneurship 1. Aboriginal Law & Policies Took Aboriginal Law courses at Banff Centre for Indigenous Management. 6 Courses one week long for each course and obtained a Certificate equivalent to a Masters in Business. Policies – Researched, drafted, had policies passed in Education, Economic Development, housing, Human Resources, Income Support, Public Works, Schools kindergarten – Gr. 12, Maskwacis Cultural College (For accreditation) , Young Spirit Winds (For accreditation), Indigenous Services Canada (formally INAC), Administration, Governance, Finance, Child Welfare. 2. Organizational and Financial Management Maskwacis Cultural College for 2 years for a General Studies University Diploma. UofA – Commerce 4 years, Major in Management and double minor in Organizational Management and Human Resources. Experience in Management – 11 years in Education as a Director, 9 years in Economic Development as the Economic Development Officer. 30+ years Work experience from Laborer – Management – Board member – Board Chair – Business Owner. 3. Governance and Leadership Training in Banff specific to Governance and Leadership. Experience for 20 years working directly with Chiefs and Councils, Governance Boards both on and off reserve, Provincial Boards, First Nation Boards and Committees. Currently, facilitate workshops to Chiefs and Councils in a variety of issues and topics. 4. Economics Both education Diploma in General Studies with Honors emphasis on Economics. Took 7 University Courses in Economics. Corporate Board CEO Functions, Chairperson. Daily economics when working in Economic Development and any other industry. Grant applications and submissions. Apply for resources available to Indigenous people. Budgeting is crucial, Finance is even more crucial. Successful is dependent on knowledge of finance. 5. Sustainable Environment & Stewardship Was a Consultation
