Using local knowledge
Raising awareness of risks amongst locals
Helping to protect from risk to life threats
Building closer links with authorities and emergency services
Encouraging a stronger sense of community IS NOT:
Replacing the work of emergency services or professional organisations
Acting alone: keep in touch as you plan and agree how to work together
Putting yourself at risk
Having your services reduced or cut
Only planning for specific emergencies<br>

Activation & Self Deployment.
North Devon Council will not be asking voluntary organisation to self-deploy on behalf of the Local Authority at this stage .<br>

slide10. Community Emergency Hubs A place for communities to gather and help each other during an emergency Why – in an emergency official responders will need to prioritise the most urgent issues. The hub is a designated place where you can gather, connect with others in the community and look after one another using the skills and resources that already exist among your community
When – a community emergency hub is needed when there has been an emergency and people need support. This may be in the early stages before official responders arrive or if the emergency is beyond the current capability of council and emergency services.
Where – Hubs are often located within key community buildings such as town hall, village hall, community centres or pubs.
What – will you find at a hub – warmth and shelter, welfare provisions (friendly face, cup of tea, someone to talk to), resources and volunteers and a pathway to emergency services.
Who – community emergency hubs are run by the community for the community.<br>
