Course Leading a new collaborative Apprenticeship (our story) Course Leader SHU – Louise Povey Lead Sergeant SYP – Tom Ashley WHY PCDA? Policing Vision 2025 asks 'What should the police service look like in 2025?‘ 'By 2025 policing will be a profession with a more representative workforce that will align the right skills, power and experience to meet challenging requirements'. New routes into policing Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship, for those who do not currently have a degree. Degree Holder Entry Programme, for those who have a degree in any subject. The Pre Join degree, for those wishing to study before joining the Police and obtain a BA(Hons) Professional Policing Practice. POLICE CONSTABLE DEGREE APPRENTICESHIP(PCDA) The PCDA is a three-year programme that combines academic learning with work-based/ occupational development. The programme is delivered by a partnership between Sheffield Hallam University and South Yorkshire Police Degree in Professional Policing Practice This Photo by Unknown Author is licensed under CC BY JOINT DELIVERY Overall curriculum/ programme management is the responsibility of Sheffield Hallam University, with delivery supported by South Yorkshire Police SHU dedicated Policing lecturers supported by the wider Law and Criminology Department Experiential learning will be led by SYP training team within initial police training. SYP delivery will be highest in Year 1 as PCAs are introduced to core policing practice. Tasked with putting the timetable together. Aware of the challenges and the importance of working together. SYP Delivery Multiple Cohorts Some of the Challenges (to name a few) SYP issue laptops, students could not access IT systems within SHU. Online platforms limited, No zoom, BB collaborate, Webex. Requirement of a Level 3 qualification = 112 UCAS or complete RPEL document for work experience, reviewed by CL = approx. 100 reviewed so far Police Trainers moving from old style training to PCDA. Fitting in the modules in the first half of the year prior to students going out operationally. Being new to SHU and new to the role of Course Leader and knowing SHU processes.
