We all fall down! “Ring around the Rosy” = rose colored ring around the sores “Pocketful of posies” = sweet smelling flowers to ward off the stench of the dead/dying “ashes to ashes” = achoo (sneezing) “we all fall down” = you’re dead<br>

How did the Black Death spread to Europe? - Trade routes (The Silk Road)! Mongols spread it to China, Middle East, India
Battles also helped the disease spread. As Mongols fought with Christians, they catapulted dead bodies into Christian cities
This is our first example of “germ warfare” in history<br>

And how did it spread ACROSS Europe? 1348-A boat arrived (from Constantinople) to Messina Italy
Everyone on board was dead
As people took the goods off the boats, the germs (and rats) started to spread
People didn’t know what caused the spread and just kept trading
European cities were so dirty and that did not help!
But certain communities, like the Jews, were more isolated and had cleaner daily practices, so they were not affected as much.<br>
