ESRC Business and Local Government Data Research Centre Prof Jerry Coakley Essex Business School Who we are Centre is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council Part of its Big Data Phase 2 investment from Feb 2014 Involves the Eastern Arc universities + LSE Mainly an infrastructure project (2/3) with some research (1/3) Main aim: to provide a range of no-fee services and academic expertise to help you use your data more effectively. High Quality Data Facility User Support Data Owners (Local Government, Business) Policy Relevant Research Access to Data (UKDS, Safe Room) Training Knowledge Exchange Impact and Engagement What we offer Existing partnerships We want to help SMEs use their data more effectively and local governments to design inclusive, smart local policies. We are currently working with: Essex County Council, Norfolk County Council, Medway Council, Kent County Council South East LEP, New Anglia LEP BT, Aviva, Lloyds, Experian Where are we at? We are have conversations with interested parties! We have made some progress! Still at exploratory phase! Data Data on services provided by Local Governments (structured and unstructured) Open Data, Low Risk Data, Confidential Data Firm-level data (Experian) Data on infrastructure (BT) Access to finance data (Experian, Lloyds Bank and our own SME Finance survey data). Research Methodologies for big data analysis (led by Essex) Data analytics Data visualisation Regional drivers of smart, inclusive and sustainable growth: Smart Economic Growth (led by Prof Sena and Coakley) Supporting Vulnerable People (led by UEA) Mapping Public Access to Green Infrastructure or Land available for Housing(led by UEA). Research Smart Economic Growth (Essex/ Kent) Experian supplying a huge 20-year quoted company database – wide range of financial, accounting and credit risk data Match this with Warwick SME Banking Lending Survey data for Eastern region Nice to match with Co Council data!
