Forms of Education There are generally three types of education- Formal Education. Informal Education and 3. Non-formal Education. 1. Formal Education- The education, which is given within the four walls of an institution, is called formal education. So, this type of education imparted in a school or colleges. It consciously and deliberately planned to bring about the specific and specific influence in the Educand. Thus school is a formal agency of education. Formal education is age-bound and time –bound. The student has to take admission in the school or college at a particular age. There he has to pay regular tuition fees. There also a fixed time table which the teacher as well as the students has to follow strictly. The school starts at a particular time and gets over at a particular time. There are fixed uniforms for the students which are decided by the school authority. Both the teacher as well as the students has to maintain strict discipline. The following are the important characteristics of formal education- 1. It is pre-determined and pre-planned. 2. It is time-bound and regulated by routine. 3. It is space-bound i.e. institutionalized. 4. It is age-bound 5. Follows systematic curriculum 6. It is well-defined and graded. 7. It is imparted by qualified teachers. 8. It observed strict discipline. 9. It has worldwide significance, status and size 10. It is methodological. Informal Education- Informal education complements the formal education. Education of this kind has no specific time or place, at which it is provided. Even the educator is not foxed. All fixed syllabi, rules, formalities are absent from it. This kind of education never comes to an end and it teaches the individual more than he can ever learn through his formal education. In very brief, the education where all formalities of formal education are absence, that type of education called Informal education. The main characteristics of Informal education are- It is incidental and spontaneous. It is not pre-planned and deliberate. It is not confined to any institution. There is no prescribed syllabus and time-table. It is not time-bound and age-bound. There are many agencies of Informal education. It is also known as out-of-school education. Non-formal Education- Non-formal Education is one of the recent concepts, getting into use. This is an arrangement wherein flexibility is the key word. This system is an open one with regard to various aspects of education i.e. admissions,
