About the author Dickens was born Charles John Huffam Dickens on February 7 , 1812, in portsmouth on the southern coast of England.
Charles Dickens was a British novelist, journalist, editor . Illustrator and social commentator who wrote such beloved classic novels as Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol, A Tale of Two Cities and Great Expectations.
Dickens is remembered as one of the most important and influential writers of the 19th century. Among his accomplishments , he has been lauded for providing a stark portrait of the Victorian –era underclass, helping to bring about social change.<br>

Summary of the novel Pip, our hero is an orphaned boy who lives with his older sister , Mrs. Joe Gargery , whose behavior is very bad for him because he is an orphan. But Mr. Joe who was a blacksmith by profession loved him very much. One day, when Pip went to his Parent’s grave, he found a runaway criminal that asked him for food to eat and something to drink. One day Pip visits Miss Havisham’s house where he saw Estella and fall in love with her immediately . One day Mr. Jagger, a lawyer, tells Pip that there is a person who will pay for your studies and will also give you monthly salary when you will be of 21, but he do not want to disclose his name. After that his sister also died soon and he visited London to attend her funeral. Where he saw Estella . She told him that now she is the widow of Drummle and he was not a good guy. At the end of the novel they decided to be together and after that they live happily ever after.<br>

Major Character list Pip : The protagonist and narrator of “ Great Expectation” Pip is passionate , romantic and somewhat unrealistic at heart, and he tends to expect more for himself than is reasonable.
Estella : She is beautiful young ward , Estella is Pip’s unattainable dream throughout the novel. He loves her passionately, but , though she sometimes seems to consider him a friend, she is usually cold and cruel.
Miss Havisham : She is a wealthy old woman lives in a manor called Satis House. She is manic and often seem insane.<br>
