Spinney Behaviour Policy Our Behaviour Policy is based on building positive and pro-social relationships with everyone in our community.
We will celebrate pro-social behaviours with verbal praise and The Spinney postcards.
In Early Years, circle time is used frequently as a way of promoting discussion around behaviour and different feelings. Adults are consistently modelling positive behaviour and good manners in class.
Healthy School and Birthdays We want to emphasise the importance of eating healthy.
It is big part of our curriculum (PSHE, Science, PE)
We would encourage all pupils to eat healthy snacks and drink water (no squash please). We want to celebrate birthdays at school if the pupil wishes to do so.
We would prefer to not give out any sugary treats to celebrate.
Instead, children may bring in their favourite book to share with the class.
We do not send out party invitations in class. 2023-2024 www.spinney.cambs.sch.uk @SpinneyPrimary
Early Learning Goals Children will be assessed throughout the year to ensure they are on track to meet the end of year Early Learning Goals (ELGs).
In the final term of the school year educators in reception must complete an early years foundation stage profile for each child and their development must be assessed against each of the 17 Early Learning Goals.
The assessment is based on classroom observation and does not require any testing or formal evidence.
This information is shared with parents in the end of year reports.
Children will be either working towards the goals or working at the expected level of development.
Phonics The Spinney is a reading school and have invested in the high;y aspiration phonics scheme, Little Wandle, Revised Letters & Sounds
Phonics lessons will be taught at 9am every morning, with lots of repeated practice during the day. Children learn the phoneme (letter sound) and the corresponding grapheme (letter graphic) together. These are GPCs.
At first, each week, we will highlight which sounds your child is learning and appreciate some practice at home. I will be running a Little Wandle Phonics workshop for parents at the end of September. You can look at very useful information on the website parents page: For parents | Letters and Sounds
Home learning It is important to embed the learning from school at home to ensure children get the best start in their education.
Reading for pleasure – sharing a book together as much as possible helps to expose children to new language, develop comprehension skills and develop a love of reading. We will offer the children a ‘Share book’ to take home to read and talk about with you.
Reading with your child when books are sent home at least x3 a week and recording this in their reading record book. We will be investing also in Little Wandle eBooks with Collins and access will become available during the term.
Discuss and practise their phonics knowledge and any GPCs or words learnt
Letter formation practise – Name writing, lowercase letters and some CAPITAL letters.
