בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְיָ אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ מֶֽלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם,
אֲשֶׁר קִדְּשָֽׁנוּ בְּמִצְוֹתָיו וְצִוָּֽנוּ עַל מִקְרָא מְגִלָּה.
Ba-rukh a-ta, A-do-nai E-lo-hei-nu, me-lekh ha-o-lam, a-sher kid-sha-nu b’mitz-vo-tav v’tzee-va-nu al mik-ra me-gi-la.

slide2. ELIMELECH OF GILHOFEN
Elimelech of Gilhofen drank "l'chaim" once too often,
Drank "l'chaim“ and became a trifle gay.
So, he put his studies by, tipped his hat across one eye, } 2x
And he called for his fiddlers to play. }

Well, the fiddler took his fiddle, put the bow across the middle,
And the fiddle fiddled out a little tune.
When the fiddler with his fiddle fiddled, "Fiddle diddle diddle,“ } 2x
Elimelech bounced just like a toy balloon. }

Elimelech, feeling frisky, took another drop of whiskey.
Twice too often down his gullet it did go.
Called each friend and each relation to his Purim celebration, } 2x
Then he roared for the piper to blow. }<br>

Well, the piper "tweedle tweeted,“ and the fiddle, it repeated,
"Fiddle diddle fiddle diddle diddle dee."
When the piper "tweedle tweeted,“ and the fiddle, it repeated, } 2x
Elimelech was beside himself with glee. }

Then, he drank three times too often, and his eyes began to soften,
And the tears began to trickle from his chin.
Oh, his ears they were a -buzzin’ til a sympathetic cousin } 2x
Whispered, "Please, let the drummer begin.“ }

Well, the drummer's drum, he beat it, and the piper "tweedle tweeted,"
And the fiddle, it repeated its encore.
The drum was "tweedle tweeting,“ and the fiddle, it was beating. } 2x
Elimelech, fast asleep, began to snore. }<br>

Oh, it happened in Gilhofen, just from drinking thrice too often.
And there's only one thing more that must be said:
At your Purim celebration use a little moderation, } 2x
Or you'll wind up with a grogger for a head. }

When the drum starts “tweetle tweeting,“ and the fiddle, it is beating,
And the piper gaily fiddles, "Fiddle dee,"
And your head, it starts a-whirling like a grogger that is twirling, } 2x
Then they're playing Elimelech's melody. }<br>

1. One hamentasch, two hamentaschen, three hamentaschen, four.
Five hamentaschen, six hamentaschen, seven hamentaschen, more.

2. I love the flavor raspberry, raspberry, raspberry.
I love the flavor raspberry. Why'd you buy prune?

3. I can eat as many of them as I can take,
But I'll have to go to sleep with a stomach ache.
Ooh. Ooh.<br>

Oh, Haman was a high and mighty bluff
In Shu-shu-shushan long ago.
He ordered Mordechai to take his derby off
In Shu-shu-shushan long ago.

CHORUS: So we sing. So we sing. So we sing and raise a row.
For Mordy and his niece
Brought the Jewish people peace.
In Shu-shu-shushan long ago.

But, Mordechai refused to bow his head
In Shu-shu-shushan long ago.
"I'll teach them all a lesson,“ mean old Haman said
In Shu-shu-shushan long ago.<br>

Oh, Esther was a timid little maid
In Shu-shu-shushan long ago.
But, Mordechai told her not to be afraid
In Shu-shu-shushan long ago.

So, she went to the king and she gave the king a smile
In Shu-shu-shushan long ago.
The king, he liked her manner and he also liked her style
In Shu-shu-shushan long ago.

So, King Ahashuerus heard about this awful plot
In Shu-shu-shushan long ago.
And in his own mean scheme, Mr. Haman was caught
In Shu-shu-shushan long ago.<br>
slide9. WICKED WICKED MAN
Oh, once there was a wicked wicked man
And Haman was his name, sir.
He lied and lied about the Jews
Though they were not to blame, sir.

CHORUS: Oh, today we’ll merry merry be (3x)
And "nosh" some hamentaschen.

Now, Esther was the lovely queen of King Ahasuerus.
When Haman said he'd kill us all, oh my how he did scare us.

But Mordechai, her cousin bold, said, “What a dreadful chutz-pah.
If I were king of Shushan, in jail he would be put, sir."<br>
slide10. WICKED WICKED MAN (cont’d)
When Esther, speaking to the King, of Haman's plot made mention,
"Ha ha," he said, "Oh, no he won’t. I'll spoil his bad intention."

CHORUS: Oh, today we’ll merry merry be (3x)
And "nosh" some hamentaschen.

"The guest of honor, he shall be, this clever Mr. Smarty, at our
'Join-us-as-we-put-an-end-to-Haman's-mischief' party."

Of Haman's cruel and unkind ways, the King did finally cure him.
And don't forget, we owe him thanks for this holiday of Purim.<br>

In a place you may have heard about, in Shushan, as you know,
An evil man named Haman said, "The Jews have got to go."
Now, Esther was the Jewish queen and she knew not where to turn,
Till Mordechai, her cousin, said, "There is something you must learn.
Oh, Esther. . . "

You can change the world. You can make the world complete.
Take the pride you feel inside, and never accept defeat.

There's an evil plot against us now, a list of cruel demands.
And, Esther, only you can help. Our fate is in your hands."
She said, "Cousin, do you really think that a difference I can make?
A Jewish girl before the King, it could be a big mistake."
"No, Esther. . . "<br>

So, Esther went before the King, and though she was afraid,
She stood up proudly and spoke out loudly and brought her people aid.
And now, we read the Megillah at Purim time, each year,
And we learn how God can give us strength to overcome our fears.

Columbus, an Italian, looked out across the sea.
He said, “Queen Isabella, the world is round,
And the USA’s just a-waitin’ to be found.”

In 1609, on a bright summer day,
The Half Moon anchored in New York bay.
Henry Hudson, a Dutchman, took a good look around.
Said, “Boys, this is gonna be a wonderful town.”<br>

They sank the Haruna to the bottom of the sea.
It was foreigners like these kept America free.<br>

Yach-ne Dvoshe went to town
With a step so hasty;
Bought a pound of this and that
For her Purim pastry.

Hop go the Purim cakes
Hop, Hamantaschen,
Pop! goes the oven door
And everybody's nashin'.

Rain is pouring, snow is falling
All the roofs are dripping;
Yach-ne's running with her flour
While the bag is ripping. She forgot the poppy seeds,
She forgot the leaven.
Yach-ne Dvoshe doesn't care
She's in seventh heaven.

Yach-ne's bringing hamantaschen
To her father's mother,
Under done on one side,
And burnt on the other.<br>

This old man, he played one,
He scared us; it was no fun.

He's the worst we've seen.
This old Haman, he was mean.

Didn't know Esther was a Jew.

Esther told the King, you see. This old man, he played four,
Pushed his luck right through the door.

Just didn't want the Jews alive.

The King said, "You pay for your tricks!"

Now that Purim time is here,
We've no Haman, so let's cheer,
With a Knick Knack Paddy Wack,
Be happy and be gay,
The Jews were saved on Purim Day.<br>

Purim is a day of fun
Children dance and songs are sung.
Costume time and games galore.
All of this for you and more.

Purim joy, Purim joy,
Fun for every girl and boy;
Join your friends in happy play
On this Purim holiday.

Purim is a day to eat
Cakes, 3 cornered, what a treat!
Haman did insure their fame
Hamantaschen is their name.<br>

Purim day, Purim day. It’s a happy holiday.

But Mordechai the Jew
