Mr. Cass Florida SouthWestern Collegiate High School *** Syllabus Highlights “Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.” Vince Lombardi Welcome to Collegiate High School NOT Middle School!! You are attending a COLLEGIATE high school on a COLLEGE campus. Maturity is essential. This is an honors course and may seem rigorous to some – not all, therefore…. Class Expectations Anticipatory Socialization? Resocialization? You were: Preparing (in advance) for new norms, values, and behaviors (AS) You are: Beginning to adopt new norms, values, and behaviors (RS) I expect you to know you have moved on to a higher academic and personal level in your life. I expect you to know how to act in a classroom setting, how to interact with me and your classmates. I expect you to respect FSWC, its staff/faculty, and above all – yourself. Finally, I expect you to understand and appreciate the opportunity you have been given for academic and personal success by attending FSWC. You are also expected to be prepared for class everyday by reading and annotating all chapters listed above, by note taking from the posted PowerPoints (see my website) BEFORE a lecture. Class Procedures Turn off your phone and enter the room quietly, professionally, and respectfully place your cell phones in the crate by the front door at the start of class. IMPORTANT NOTE: I do not ALLOW cell phone usage. If you use your phone during class, I will hold on to the phone for you until the end of the day. Electronic devices such as laptops or tablets are allowed for appropriate classroom activities only. If device is being used inappropriately, your privilege will be revoked for a period of time and a phone call home will proceed. Dress Code issues will be referred to Ms. Wier. “Do Now” activities will occur daily throughout the year. Bathroom breaks are allowed after the first 10 minutes of class and NOT allowed 10 minutes before the end of class, and one person may leave at a time. Bottled water ONLY. Candy, food, and soft drinks, are not allowed in class. Remain seated until the dismissal bell. Please refrain from “packing” up and huddling at the door.
