Recap: Lesson 1- Introduction to Christianity Last lesson you explore some of the basics of Christianity, largest religion in the world and the UK today. Originating in Israel/ Palestine, with one God. Key figure is Jesus Christ, whose teachings Christians follow today.
There are two documents uploaded into the Files section:

Fact File Answers: This document allows you to check over your answers to your Fact File to see if there is anything that needs added/ amended.
Starter: What does God look like? Regardless if you believe in a God(s), or not, most people have a perception of what a God may be like.
It is worth noting that, whilst it is acceptable in Christianity, in some religions it is is not advised to depict God in any kind of picture form.
However, apart from the odd near death experience or vision, no one can really tell you definitively what God is like.
Task: If you were to conjure up an idea of a God(s), what is the first thing that comes to mind? It can be a drawing, words, description, symbol, feeling etc. and it does not have to be specifically Christian. This is a famous painting called ‘God the Father’, depicting the Judeo-Christian God, by Cima de Conegliano in 1515c.
Who is God in Christianity? I was asked to do the previous task in a university lecture, and commonly people drew the sky, hands, love hearts, old men with beards etc.
An explanation for this may be, if you come from the UK and Western Europe, the Judeo-Christian God is often depicted as an old white man in sky in famous artworks.
And so, ultimately our views of what a God, should they exist or not, may be like are influenced by different factors.
However, do these stereotypes tell us anything formal about the Christian God? Today we will explore what Christians believe about their God.
Today I will… LI:
Understand the nature of the Christian God according to scripture.
SC:
Make notes on the basic beliefs and terms surrounding the Christian God.
Essential Task 1: How do Christians know what God is like? Question: Write down how do you know what someone is like. E.g. characteristics
Of course, God is not like the average person who Christians can grab brunch with, however, many Christians believe they can know him personally e.g. through prayer.
Others see him simply as a force within the world controlling things silently.
09
Essential Task 1: How do Christians know what God is like? Other ways to know about God:
Scripture (bible)
Looking at creation (e.g the natural world created by God)
Listening to preachers
Experience through worship
Some believe through miracles too! Make note of two of these!
The Nature of God When looking at who the Judeo-Christian God is, we often refer to the ‘nature of God’.
This is essentially a quest into understanding what God is like, or what characteristics they are believed to hold.
The main source for this is the Bible, each of the books of the Bible were written by early Christians, many who are believed to have known Jesus personally.
Therefore, as Jesus was believed to be the son of God, they are seen as the best source of wisdom for what God is like.
The Nature of God in the Bible Video Link – Watch the first minute: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARyWE8e50yM The first, and arguably most notable story, is found in the first book of the Bible, Genesis.
It is the story of the creation of the earth and all living things.
In this story it talks you through the creation of the earth. Some take this literally (word for word), some see it as symbolic, but most would agree God had a key part to play in the creation of all life on earth, and the earth itself.
Quite an important role, that gives away a lot of what God may be like.
12
Essential Task 2:Who is the Christian God? Watch the video and answer the following questions:
What might the creation story in Genesis tell Christians about the nature of God?
What are the three parts of the Christian God? (aka the Trinity)
Does God have a gender?
Challenge Question: Why might it be difficult to give facts about the Christian God? Full sentences answer. Video Link:
