Overview of the The Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan 24 Jan 2022 UNCT Meeting “Decade of robust socio-economic development by integrating climate resilience and low carbon growth for optimizing prosperity and partnership” Key Targets Attain High middle- income county in this decade by maximizing resilience Strengthen employment in green tech jobs and shift towards a green economy Promote well being (physical and mental health) by increasing mobility and improved air quality index Enhanced energy security and sourcing 30% from renewable energy by end of this decade A forward thinking and ambitious plan: 76.2 billion USD over 10 years Over 10 years GDP growth of USD 850 billion, avoid losses of 4.9% GDP by 2030 Five Hallmark Initiatives MUJIB LOCALLY LED ADAPTATION HUBS. Capacity building of local-level leadership for climate change adaptation in the most vulnerable communities MUJIB COMPREHENSIVE CLIMATE AND DISASTER RISK MANAGEMENT AND FINANCING STRATEGY. Poverty reduction and social inclusion through climate and disaster risk financing and insurance (CDRFI) instruments and Adaptive Social Protection (ASP) MUJIB RESILIENT WELL-BEING PROGRAMS. “Community-Based Psychological First Aid”, crisis preparedness, trauma counseling, educational and child support programs, and general healthy, sustainable and traditional lifestyles Five Hallmark Initiatives MUJIB BONGOPOSAGOR INDEPENDENCE GIGA ARRAY. A 4-gigawatt off-shore wind generation array network linked to a mangrove green belt. MUJIB ENERGY HUBS. Programs for reconversion of coal, oil, and diesel thermal power plants; workforce upskilling; green hydrogen production facilities, and waste-to-energy/biomass power plants, interconnected with Bangladesh’s growing LNG/natural gas network. Specific projects to be implemented: Integrated water management projects; construction of the barrages Increase tree coverage; restore degraded forests; reduce/halt deforestation Rationalized water and polder projects in Chattogram Coastal plains National Rivers Stabilization and Land Reclamation Project; ecological restoration of river systems around Dhaka city Urban drainage network improvement and solid waste management projects Flood and drought management center setup Improvement of existing water resources infrastructure in drought-prone and Barind areas Improvement of existing flood forecasting and early warning systems (e.g., cyclone and surge warnings) KEY POINT 1: BANGLADESH DELTA PLAN 2100 RESILIENCE BONDS TO PROMOTE ACCELERATED ADAPTATION AND PROTECTIVE INFRASTRUCTURE 2A: JUST TRANSITION AND MODERNIZATION THROUGH TRAINING AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT FOR LABOR MARKETS OF THE FUTURE Investment options to boost workers productivity and efficiency (supply chain coordination, industry coordination to lower costs) Improve the quality of educators with regional and international collaborators.
