Scientists & stakeholders together develop concepts Page 3 Only scientifically sound concepts for NFI, having political support, have a good chance for realization. 3. Legalization, funding, institutionalization Page 4 Often the budget will be too small. Then priorities must be set and option for rationalization must be developed. 4. Forest inventory must provide relevant information Page 5 The continuation of the inventory will find the required support only, if it meets the expectations of users and financiers. 5.Public relations work to disseminate the results Page 6 The information must reach the target groups. 6. Trustworthiness, objectivity and neutrality Page 7 The results of the NFI must be presented neutrally and objectively. 7. Responding to new information needs Page 8 New trends and data requirements must be recognized in time to be applied in future concepts. 8. Methods should be developed carefully Page 9 Comparability with previous NFI surveys must always be ensured. 9. Development of scientific cooperation Page 10 External knowledge is required to broaden the scientific horizon and to provide opportunities for career development. 10. Permanent capacity building Page 11 With raising success and awareness of the NFI their scope and complexity will increase.
