GEMA Constituent Services Resource Sheet This was prepared to assist you in responding to calls from constituents concerning the severe weather impacting Georgia. If your office has any questions, please do not hesitate to contact GEMA’s Office of Constituent Services at (404) 635-2154. For life-threatening emergencies, people trapped or active flooding Call 911 or your local emergency number. For requests regarding general disaster-related inquiries and all other inquiriesContact the local Emergency Management Agency (EMA). A list of county EMAs can be found at www.gema.state.ga.us under “Field Operations” under “Local EMA Info”. A link to the county Web site is available. People affected by flooding are encouraged to notify their local EMA. The following are resources they may contact as needed. TransportationTo learn about roads closed and the latest traffic conditions, please call 511 or go to the Georgia Department of Transportation 511 Web site at www.georgianavigator.com. Insurance-related InquiriesPlease contact the insurance company directly. If there continue to problems, constituents may contact the Georgia Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner at 800-656-2298. Shelter/Mass CareTo locate temporary housing and other relief services, please call the American Red Cross at 404-870-4440. Drinking WaterIf a constituent does not have running water, contact the local EMA or county/city water authority for information about available alternatives. Financial Disaster AssistanceAt this time, no financial assistance is available for individuals. The Governor’s declaration of a State of Emergency only opens assistance to counties and cities in responding to the emergency. However, assistance may become available to individuals if the federal declaration of a disaster is made. It will depend on the scope of the assistance made available by FEMA.
