The serieshas been running for more than a decade, airs on Sundays at 6pm on KQED 9.Truly CA: Our State, Our Storiesreaches out to the independent film community throughout the state to find completed or nearly completed featurelength documentaries. KQED offerthese films KQED packaging, closed captioning, inclusion in the series website, promotion and a modest licensing fee. In additionone or more films in the series may be offered inkind, completion resources tailored to the needs of each project, which may include an online edit and a sound mix. SELECTION CRITERIATruly CAfilms must be about California in some way – t just taking place in California. The films must also be primarily shot in California, and preferably made by California's talented independent documentary filmmakers. Our taste is eclectic: we seek films that cover a broad range of topics and filmmakingstyles, from political social issues to more personal andexperimental works. opics of interest include: education, the environment, immigration, the criminal justice system, history, healthcare and governance – issues explored through the lives of ordinary and extraordinary Californians. In terms of style and format, we consider narrated and nonnarrated films, firstperson or pointview projects, cinema veritĂ© work and news documentaries. We look for wellcrafted stories featuring compelling characters – stories that are provocative, passionateand unforgettable. Not only do we want welltold stories, we're interested in wellmade films, works that are both thoprovoking and eyeopening.ELIGIBILITYNonfiction: Only documentary films will beconsidered. No narrative films, docudramas or performance pieces.Independents nly: Filmmakers must have artistic, editorialbudgetary control of their projects, and own the copyright.
