Upshift is Madison’s only sustainable clothing

s

wap boutique. Not only is all of the clothing

100% sustainable, but everything is 100% local

a

s well. The concept is easy to understand and

u

ltimately gives clothing multiple lives. Instead of

garments ending up in landfills, they are brought

i

nto the boutique and swapped out for similar

m

erchandise for one low flat rate. The inventory is

c

hanging daily, which keeps merchandise flowing and

t

rends fresh. My duty for the day was to dress a

m

annequin and offer customers a new style look that

was not on display the day prior.Slide3

Mannequin Building

Each mannequin starts with a simple

i

nspiration found inside one of the

f

ashion publications found within the

s

tore. Not only will this provide a fresh

n

ew look for the display, but also show

the consumer that this display wasn’t

j

ust made up. The styling seen on the

mannequin was influenced by what was

f

ound on the “tear sheet.” Once a tear

s

heet was picked, I went through the

b

outique looking for garments and

accessories that were as similar as

possible to what was shown on the tear

sheet. Once the mannequin was styled,

the tear sheet was then hung next to

t

he mannequin for reference.Slide4

Fashion Coordination

This specific mannequin serves multiple

purposes. Not only does it show how

certain pieces play a small role in forming

a

whole outfit, but it also gives the

c

onsumer a new way to style certain

p

ieces with other pieces. The shopper

m

ay look at this display and like the entire

o

utfit or she might only like a certain

p

iece or two, but it at least gives the

s

hopper an idea as to how pieces look

n

ext to one another. I tried to style this

m

annequin as closely as possible to the

t

ear sheet I choose. I was going for a

d

ecorative neutrals look which consisted

o

f predominant black and whites with

c

haracter. The outfit flows from top to

b

ottom as looks very similar to the style

s

hown in the tear sheet. I finished this

o

utfit off with two accessories. Aqua

p

umps gave the outfit a nice pop and looks

g

reat with the aqua micro-beaded necklace.Slide5

Merchandise Relation

The other display I styled was a

t

wo-shelved wall system that

f

eatured a diverse collection of

a

ccessories. This display was

l

ocated just to the right of my

mannequin and gave the shopper

o

ther accessory ideas and how they

c

ould be paired with my outfit for the

d

ay. If the shopper didn’t want the

b

old look of aqua accessories, I made

n

eutral colored accessories easily

a

vailable to match the look they

d

esired. Similar to the mannequins,

t

he inspiration for my accessories

d

isplay was found on a tear sheet in

Elle Fashion Magazine.Slide6

Silent Sellers

The mannequins and displays found within

Upshift are an effective and powerful silent

s

elling tool. They offer a full look from top tobottom for the shopper. Multiple mannequinsare on display throughout the boutique to

o

ffer the shoppers fresh and new looks without

h

aving to sort through all the racks of clothing.

This makes the whole process extremely easyf

or the shopper. It is not uncommon to redress

t

he same mannequin multiple times during the

d

ay at Upshift. Garments and accessories are

l

iterally taken off of the mannequin and go

home with the shopper. Some consumers

s

olely shop off of the displayed mannequins.Slide7
