Following the Great Physician
, you will get biblical answers on how to:- deal with the stressful demands of medicine- dedicate your life to serving and loving others- trust that God wants you to be successful- understand the importance of work-life balanceFollowing the Great Physician is a powerful book that equips Christian doctors and medical students to establish the kingdom of God through their lives. Following the Great Physician launches them into a life of breakthrough by becoming doctors in the image of Jesus Christ, the Great Physician.\" In this age of shortened office visits, doctors take care of their patients\' immediate needs and often elide their own personal histories. But as reflected in Broke, Michael Stein takes the time to listen to the experiences of his patients whose financial challenges complicate every decision in life they make. Stein asks his patients to tell him about their financial conditions not only to find out how to better treat them but also to bear witness to their very survival and the power of human resilience. Stein\'s intimate vignettes capture these encounters, allowing his patients to offer profound, moving, and unguarded reflections about their struggles, sometimes in a single sentence. Broke is a quietly passionate critique of a country that has grown callous to the plight of the poor, the tens of millions of people in the United States who live below the poverty line and who have no obvious path to security. Full of heartbreaking and surprising details and framed by a wry, knowing, and empathic humor, there is no other book that illuminates the experience of people facing economic hardship in this way. Nancy Ainsworth-Vaughn studied stories, topic control, true questions, and rhetorical questions in 101 medical encounters in US private-practice settings. In exceptionally lucid and accessible style, Ainsworth-Vaughn explains how power was claimed by and co-constructed for both patients and doctors (previous studies have focused upon doctors\' power). The discourse varied along a continuum from interview-like talk to conversational talk. Six chapters are organized around data and include extended examples of actual talk in detailed transcription four of these data-oriented chapters focus upon dynamic, moment-to-moment use of speech activities in emerging discourse, such as doctors\' and patients\' stories that co-constructed selves, and a patient\'s sexual rhetorical questions. Two more chapters offer non-statistical quantitative data on the frequency of questioning and sudden topic changes in relation to gender, diagnosis, and other factors. Contributing to discourse theory, Ainsworth-Vaughn significantly modifies previous definitions for topic transitions and rhetorical questions and discovers the role of storytelling in diagnosis. The final chapter provides implications for physicians and medical educators. This step-by-step guide will share strategies on preparing for doctor visits and communicating with doctors to get the most out of limited time. Taking the approach of working with your physicians as patient partners, the book suggests you first see your doctors as human beings. Learn their backgrounds, their biases, and their limitations. After years of interactions with patients, Kilbourn Gordon III, M.D., provides the innermost details of building a winning relationship with your doctor, which results in your best health. The author helps you understand the medical decision making processes and provides concrete steps to clarify diagnostic and therapeutic thinking. Elevate your visit to the highest possible level for the well-being of both you and your doctor. Achieve better medical outcomes in spite of shorter office visits, and boost your chances of living a longer, healthier life with the lessons in Med School 101 for Patients.
