HSE construction health statistics* 2017-201882,000 ill-health cases

Key trades affected = carpenters, joiners, general builders, M&E, plumbers

Worst incidence rate of ill-health found in carpenters, joiners & builders.

3,000 workers suffer with breathing & lung problems (silicosis, asthma, COPD etc)

A roofer is 50% more likely to be diagnosed with COPD

62% of ill-health = musculoskeletal injury

Dermatitis incidence doubled for painters, carpenters, joiners & builders

3500 new cancer cases (mostly asbestos related)

*not all workers are working in the construction sector
