Student is contacted by NHS Covid-19 app as Close Contact or sent Venue Possible Contact warning while on trip

Follow instructions!

Is Not double jabbed

IF student is not double jabbed then will have to isolate in place for up to 10 days!- Liaise with hotel re: their isolation procedures. Separate room-mate and put in NEW room. If no spare rooms available book extra room elsewhere for staff / double up staff / use AirBnBIf trip moves on without student, leave a GTA or order a new one to stay near student to ensure student can access food etc.

Follow instructions!

Is double jabbed by the NHS

Double jabbed isolation rules are slightly different in different territories. BUT for all – there is a need to have been double vaccinated in the NHS at least 14 days ago.

Get PCR testMove room-mate into spare room while waiting for results? Isolation can be ended depending on which country:England“you're fully vaccinated – this means 14 days have passed since your final dose of a COVID-19 vaccine given by the NHS”Wales“As of 7 August 2021, adults who have been fully vaccinated and received the vaccine in the UK and those under the age of 18 will no longer have to self-isolate if they are identified as close contacts of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.”Scotland can end isolation if you meet all 3 criteria” - you're fully vaccinated – this means you’ve received 2 doses from the NHS and have had your second dose more than 14 days ago- you receive a negative PCR test result- you do not have, or develop, symptoms”

Issues staff may face:How do we transport the student back to the hotel if they are in the field when they receive a call?We have no choice here – they can ONLY be transported back in the back-up car with a single driver. What if they aren’t checked into a hotel? (i.e. transfer days)If on the Wales  Scotland transfer which is entirely by coach – no back-up car will be in convoy. Carrying on to Scotland with Covid Close Contact on board in max ventilation mode, isolated as best we can and use high performance mask FFP3 on CCC and, if necessary for social distancing, on nearest seated passengers.Transfer BETWEEN hotels in Wales – they could be moved to the car, as in a field day. Incoming hotels would normally still accept this. What if they want to go home? How can they travel? Their parents can come and pick them up.

10 days isolation clock starts. Staff member / GTA sent to student?

Positive

Negative Hooray! Return to the trip / rejoin the trip and roommate returns to original room.

If the trip has moved on to a new location, liaise with staff to figure out transport. At each stage:Update relevant bits of My ImperialTell JP (Fieldwork safety Officer)Tell Senior tutorIsolating students may be able to join the virtual field trip – take laptops!Likely several more students and staff will need to isolate and get PCR tests etc.

Issues staff may face:

S

tudent tests positive while not checked into a hotel, where can they isolate?”

We avoid this situation as we don’t let them take LF tests when not checked into a hotel!

“Student becomes very unwell.”

They, or the staff member/GTA left with them, calls NHS direct and follows advice

“Money for self isolation costs (food/hotel etc.) Leaving a staff member ensures we can pay for costs.”

Yes, staff member pays any extra costs, either themselves (to claim back), or by calling base and getting a VCC organized. Currently, College Insurance policy

on Covid refund under

review.

“Are all

drivers asked

to isolate?” Drivers only asked to isolate if they are close contacts, which they won’t normally be. If we end up having to drive a pinged person back to accommodation, driver is only a twice-removed contact, so would not normally be asked to isolate. We should take care though, and where we have capacity put them in single-accommodation.

If the fieldtrip leader, owing to Covid guidance and developments considers the trip is threatened by not having the necessary staffing and GTA support to continue, a committee of Trip Leader, FSO, ST, DUGS will decide further action, and whether to truncate trip
