Lesson 24 Chapter 4 vss. 6 The Book of James

James 4:4–6 (NASB95) You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you think that the Scripture speaks to no purpose: “He jealously desires the Spirit which He has made to dwell in us”? But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, “GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE.”

The Path of Humility; Matt. 21 Matthew 21:1–10 (NASB95) When they had approached Jerusalem and had come to Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied there and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to Me. “If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.” This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: “SAY TO THE DAUGHTER OF ZION, ‘BEHOLD YOUR KING IS COMING TO YOU, GENTLE, AND MOUNTED ON A DONKEY, EVEN ON A COLT, THE FOAL OF A BEAST OF BURDEN.’ ”

The Path of Humility; Matt. 21 Matthew 21:1–10 (NASB95) The disciples went and did just as Jesus had instructed them, and brought the donkey and the colt, and laid their coats on them; and He sat on the coats. Most of the crowd spread their coats in the road, and others were cutting branches from the trees and spreading them in the road. The crowds going ahead of Him, and those who followed, were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David; BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD; Hosanna in the highest!” When He had entered Jerusalem, all the city was stirred, saying, “Who is this?” (FYI; They get it wrong)

The Path of Humility; Matt. 22-26 Cleansing the Temple- Establishes autority-leaves the city Parable of the fig tree-Followers have authority to pray in faithReturns next day- to have authority questioned Parable of 2 sons- Faith recognizes and responds to authority Parable of Landowner- God himself will deal with usurped authority Parable of Marriage feast- God alone has authority over guest listExplanation of authority using coins/ CaesarSadducees question Jesus to establish his authority Ressurection relationships- God is most important relationship) Most important law? - Love God!

The Path of Humility; Matt. 22-26 8 woes- Exposes and condemns usurped authorityLaments over misdirected recognitionTemple/ kingdom collapse will draw more AWAY from God's authorityWorld collapse ushers in unveiling of God's authority that was hidden 2nd parable of fig tree- be READY 1o Virgins- prepare now for later Talents- work now for laterGod's Authority will cast down all otherThe actualization of God's kingdomincludes judgement~Oh, WAIT, There WAS ONE act of recognition!- (anointed @ the Leper's house)RESULT? “Let's Kill Him!!” ... Enter Judas, Satans tool

The Example of Humility Philippians 2:3–8 (NASB95) Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, Not even one Vainglory Lowliness of heart stubborn expectation Colossians 1:15–19 (NASB95) He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything. For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him,

The Example of Humility Philippians 2:3–8 (NASB95) ...but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

The Example of Humility 1 Peter 5:5–7 (NASB95) You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE. Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.

The 'Humble Pie' 1. Start with a firm shell of Knowing your God2. Pour into that shell All that you know about who you are, were and will be ( to do this sucessfully, you will have to mix in all that God has already done and promises to do for you.)3. Liberaly drizzle all the gifts and abilities he has given you as needed to generate a sweet savor to Him. Examples of these may include;TimeEnergyWordsFinances
