Slide6U of T is the single largest recipient of funding from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Canada Foundation for Innovation. U of T Medicine saw a nearly 9.5% increase in Tri-Agency Funding last year. In the most recent CIHR Project Grant Program competition (Spring 2018), U of T Medicine (including both on-campus and hospital-based researchers) had a success rate 19.65%, significantly higher than the national average of 14.01%.

U of T has, however, the most post-MD trainees in Canada and is a leading provider of medical continuing professional development.
