English Language Arts 5-6American Literature

With Ms.

Borchers

Please take one of everything (there are

7

things- not including a notecard—only pick up the notecard if you don’t have an iPad) on the front table, find a seat, and get out your iPad if you

have one

Slide2

While I call people up to sign schedules be sure you have a QR code reader available – either on your iPad or on your phone. If you are tech free, you will to have a notecard from the front table to

jot down your info.

If you need a reader, I recommend i-Nigma!Slide3

If you are tech free, answer these questions on your notecard! Please put your name above the red line.

1

Tell me three things I should know about you.

2

What is one word that describes you.

3

me three things I can do to help you succeed in our class.

Our purpose in this class is to help you. . .develop and improve your reading and writing skills so that you can

CONNECT,

CREATE, COLLABORATE, and COMMUNICATE effectively in our world. If you ever wonder how something we are doing is relevant

to these skills, do not hesitant to

ask.Slide5

In this class, you will have time to . . .READ and

LEARN about literature.

REFLECT on literature or a discussion topic by WRITING about what you have READ.

THINK

critically about

READING

,

WRITING

, and

SPEAKING

.

discuss strategies on becoming a better READER and WRITER. Slide6

And we will work together to help you find your passion! Just wait for Thursday! The course of your entire life will be decided by your attitude. Your attitude will decide how well you do in school. It will decide how you get along with your family and friends. Your attitude will decide whether or not you discover your potential, develop your abilities, and reach your goals.Slide7

According to Charles Swindoll:

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company . . .a church . . a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past . . We cannot change the fact that people will action a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me, and 90% how I react to it.Slide8

So, perhaps we need a bit of structure . . .

Students are expected to keep electronic devices on the top right corner of their desk face down when they are not in use. Backpacks/purses/etc. will not be permitted on desks.Slide11

Other Things You Need to Know

On the side board, you will find the week’s activities, and our schedule for extra help.

We will be using Canvas as our learning management system (you will get work and submit work here). Your login for Canvas is the same as your login to the school computers.Although much of our class will be done with the iPads, you will need a folder or section of your notebook for this course for handouts you will use repeatedly throughout the semester.

Will be continually work shopping writing pieces and working on various aspects of the writing process.

You will be expected to read and write outside of class. You will have homework every week (but rarely every day).Slide19
