For over 25 years, blame has been extended to gifted programs for favoring children from advantaged backgrounds. Minority groups or gifted learners are highly underrepresented in gifted programs in the United States. Statistics report that this underrepresentation may vary for 30% to 70%. The average is common at around 50%. (Ford & Thomas, 1997). Gifted students exist in all levels of society, every culture, and every ethnic group (Frasier, Garcia, Passow, 1995). In order to include underrepresented minority groups in gifted programs, it is mandatory to establish “equal footing” for all students no matter what their race, culture, or socioeconomic status is . Kazimierz Dabrowski a Polish psychiatrist and psychologist who survived both world wars. His experiences helped him develop his theory as he witnessed acts of complete self-sacrifice in the midst of incomprehensible inhumanity could exist together. He started his research with individuals who were “authentically ideal, saturated with immutable values, those who represented ‘what ought to be; against ‘what is’”. He studied biographies of eminent individuals and saints. Also in his laboratory he continued his research with artists, actors, dancers, and intellectually gifted children and youth (Silverman 1993). . Aims of the Programme. To identify academic strengths and specific talent in our students. To differentiate upwards for MASt students in all lessons and for Gifted & Talented students in their nominated subjects.
