Built in the Victorian Gothic Revival style and perched at an elevation of 2003 metres, The Himalayan is the premier luxury resort in

Manali

area of North Western Indian Himalaya. Our Castle and Cottages are set in the midst of apple and cherry orchards, overlooking resplendent snow capped mountain peaks and waterfalls plunging down rock faces. In this privileged backdrop we find inspiration, whilst looking towards a vibrant and propitious future. Here grandeur, elegance and style have conspired to create intimacy and warmth without pretension. Slide3

The Castle

Passing through the flagstone-paved cul-de-sac, beyond urn-topped gateposts, you have crossed the threshold into our world. The scorching and dusty Indian cities seem like a distant past. The Castle’s Gothic façade, with its battlements and buttresses, looms startlingly before you.

Stepping inside the vestibule leading to the hall, the visitor is greeted by meticulously restored antique furnishings and

objets

d’art complementing the Medieval arches and wood

panelling

. Light streams through the atrium glass onto the Pompeii inspired marble floor intensifying the drama further. The sheer

splendour

and superlative style is carried forward into the other public rooms exhibiting cast-iron fireplaces and hand-carved Gothic chimneypieces.Slide4

The CottagesSlide5

Interspersed around the swimming pool and orchard garden are eight exceptional cottages offering brilliant and unrivalled vistas of the spectacular

Manali

area. Each individual cottage comprises two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms complete with marble counters and shower cubicles, drawing room with an operational fireplace, dining area, as well as a kitchenette and individual balcony. The cottages are a seamless depiction of luxury and poise with immaculate polished hardwood floors and interiors replete with gracious furnishings. Spring mattresses, in-room safes and LCD televisions are de

riguer

in the bedrooms. A restored Victorian roll-top bath occupies a vantage position in the dressing area. The well thought-out kitchenette in the cottage comes with a stove burner, refrigerator, microwave oven, toaster, tea/coffee maker, cooking paraphernalia, chinaware, cutlery and glassware. Complimentary bath amenities are bespoke from natural plant extracts and essential oils are provided. The terraced nature of the property and informal garden, presents individual nooks around the cottages.Slide6

Environs & Culture

Manali

lies on the banks of the river Beas in

Kullu

which is ever so often referred to as ‘The Valley of the Gods’.

Kullu

is an important district of arguably one of the most serene and bountiful states of Himachal Pradesh in North India.

Manali

and the surrounding areas hold great significance in Indian culture, as it is believed to be the earth of the Sapthrishi or the Seven Sages. An ancient trade route originated in Manali, leading to Ladakh and there on over the Karakoram Pass to Yarkand and Khotan. This is the land of eternal snow peaks, where plains of the Indian subcontinent give way to the majesty of the Himalayas. Kullu Valley leads to Manali, which is the indisputable adventure playground of the Indian Himalayas. Time magazine featured Manali among ‘Best of Asia’ for its ‘Extreme Yak Sport’. North of Manali lies the Rohtang Pass, which is the gateway to Leh, Lahaul and Spiti.Slide12
