Reflexes are natural physical responses a baby has that helps him or her to survive outside of the womb. Many reflexes which are present at birth will generally subside within a few months as the baby grows and matures. While some reflexes may be more prominent in certain babies, reflexes help pediatricians identify if a baby is growing and maturing as he or she should be. . Chapter 13 Part 4. Anatomy &Physiology. Introduction Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is a phenomenon where an infant under the age of one dies due to unknown reasons. There are speculations that the reasons might include respiratory problems or circulatory problems but doctors have not been able to pinpoint the cause of death yet. One theory in the field is by Dr. McKenna, whose hypothesis is that signaling occurs between mothers and babies when they are cosleeping (sleeping next to each other or are in the same room). This signaling may assist to reset the breathing patterns or the arousal rhythm of sleep which would help some babies who might be susceptible to SIDS. The objective of the study was to test this hypothesis of mothers and babies cosleeping by looking at mathematical equations and relating them to different states of sleep: active and quiet sleep. This was done by modeling sleep in several different ways and by using sleep data from Dr. Thoman Fig. S5a. Cerebral palsy definition. It’s not a disease , it’s a symptom complex. A disorder of movement and posture. Causing activity limitation. Non-progressive, but it symptoms may change with maturation. Hypo-. reflexia.  . Hypo-. reflexia. is an absent or diminished response to tapping. . Hypo-. reflexia. usually indicates a disease that . involves one or more of the components of the two-neuron reflex arc itself. POSTURE. Each species of animal maintains a normal orientation in space called posture / attitude. Eg. : All domestic animals stand on four limbs. Horizontal posture. Humans stand on lower limbs only . . M. Ibrahim. Definition. :. Cerebral palsy (CP) is a neurodevelopmental impairment caused by a non-progressive lesion in a single or multiple locations in an immature brain. The lesion leads to persistent disorders of movements and posture that appear early in the infant's life (before 5 years). It is not a specific disease, but a group of neurological disorders of varied causes..
