Student Attendance Springfield Public Schools 2018-2019 6

Chronic Absence Rates by Grade Chronic absence rates… Are highest in the pre-K years (41% of pre-K students are chronically absent) Are lower and decreasing in the elementary school years (but still 15% of students or more) Increase during transition to middle school , in grade 8, and at the transition to high schoolThese patterns are consistent with trends found in national studies. Chronic Absence Rates by Level Although absenteeism has improved, chronic absenteeism remains a concern for SPS students SPS elementary and high school students are about 50% more likely to be chronically absent than grade-level peers nationally; SPS middle school students are almost twice as likely to be chronically absent .
