The marathon is a charismatic event. It has everything. It has drama. It has competition. It has camaraderie. It has heroism. Every jogger can't dream of being an Olympic champion, but he can dream of finishing a marathon. -Fred

Most people run a race to see who is fastest. I run a race to see who has the most guts

YOU HAVE TAKEN THE FIRST STEP

NOW, A FEW MORE…..There are clubs you can't belong to, neighborhoods you can't live in, schools you can't get into, but the roads are always open - NikeSlide4

What is it?

We can't all be heroes because someone has to sit on the curb and clap as they go by

- Will Rogers, CommentatorSlide5

Who runs for Change?

YOU & MEIf you feel bad at 10 miles, you're in trouble. If you feel bad at 20 miles, you're normal. If you don't feel bad at 26 miles, you're abnormal

- Rob Costella, 1983 World Marathon ChampSlide6

That’s Why…

We are different, in essence, from other men. If you want to win something, run 100 meters. If you want to experience something, run a marathon. - Emil

Zatopek, 4 times Olympics winnerSlide7

The marathon can humble you

- Bill Rodgers, 4 times winner of Boston MarathonSlide8

Options

I definitely want to show how beautiful the marathon can be. I am the opponent of all those who find the marathon bad: the psychologists, the doubters. I make the marathon beautiful for myself and for others. That's why I'm here -

Why run & raise when we can earn & donate

The body does not want you to do this. As you run, it tells you to stop but the mind must be strong. You must handle the pain with strategy...It is not age; it is not diet. It is the will to Succeed - Jacqueline

A half marathon is a good way to have a bit of fun and race against those girls and learn a bit more about them. The world half marathon is a world championship at the end of the day and it's important. I've won it twice and it's a quality event.

- Paula Radcliffe, World Record Holder 2002Phull

ya Haff…

It is difficult to train for a marathon; but it is even more difficult to not be able to train for a marathon

- Aaron D. Trimble, RunnerSlide18

A Recent Example of AID’s work

CYCLONE AILA HITS THE SUNDERBANS, W BENGAL ON MAY 25th, 2009 – 3 MILLION DISPLACED

Widespread devastation

AID responds with emergency drive to raise awareness and funds

and works with NGOs to provide

relief to affected people.

AID finds that the urgent need is to restore agricultural livelihood. Training is provided to help farmers desalinate fields and restart cultivation

.Slide30

Fields of trained farmers are soon flourishing again …

… but much remains to be done in the region.

AID works with NGO partners to set up community kitchens …

… and to help people advocate for the right to work through the NREGS.Slide31

The movie ‘Swades’ -

inspired by the work of AID founder, Ravi, at Bilgaon village, Maharashtra

While the movie focuses on a hero as the change-maker …

… the reality of Bilgaon is that the people were empowered to take their own decisions …

… and transform their own lives.

By running or supporting the marathon program, you are becoming a part of Bilgaons all across India.Slide32
