Resource Optimisation Managers often get busy in doing things in better manner than doing the better things.Effectiveness is more significant than efficiency.
Slide5Project Management:-
Project management is the planning, organizing, directing and controlling of company resources for a relatively short term objective that has been established to complete specific goals and objective.
Project Planning:-
Definition of work requirements.Definition of quantity of work.Definition of resources needed.Project Monitoring:-Monitoring Progress
Comparing actual to predictedAnalysing impactMaking adjustments

Slide8Example:-
A project consists of a series of tasks
labelled A, B, ....H, I with the following relationships (W< X, Y means X and Y cannot start until W is completed; X, Y<W means W cannot start until both X and Y are completed). With this notation construct the network diagram having the following constraints
A<D, E ; B, D<F ; C<G ; B<H ; F,G<IFind also the minimum time of completion of the project when the time (in days) of completion of each task is as follows:-
Slide9Draw a network for the following project and number the events according to Fulkerson’s rule.
A is a start event and K is an end event
J is successor event to FD is preceding event to G
E and F occur after event CE precedes FC restraints the occurrence of G and G precedes HH precedes J and K succeeds JF restraints the occurrence of H
Example:-
Slide10PERT
A project consists of the following activities and different time estimates
.
Slide11Example:-
A project has the following schedule: construct the network and find critical path. Also, find the minimum number of cranes the project must have for the activities 2-5, 3-7, 8-9 without delaying the project. Is there any change required in the network? If so, indicate the same.

ISO 9001 / IS 14001 Quality Systems: Model for quality assurance in design, development, production, installation and servicing.
CASE:- NECO Valves and Pumps, Nagpur
: (Work Force 300 – 350 )
Total Activities : - 98, Critical Activities : - 36, Critical Path Duration : - 151 days
Slide14CASE Study in Crisis Management: A Project Management Approach
Predictable Crisis Unpredictable Crisis
River exceeding danger level (1) Fire
Weather Experts Prediction – Storms , Rains (2) Accident
War (3) Lightening
Crisis management talks about a scientific way to combat the crisis and to minimize the losses due to crisis.
There must be already prepared plan according to which the help can be reached to the persons who really need the help.
The function of Crisis managers begins even before the actual crisis takes place, if at all the crisis is of predictable type.
Iraq Government constructed underground bunkers much before the Gulf War began.
Crisis management involves formulation of an action plan in qualitative term.
Slide15MOWAD FLOOD TRAJEDY:-
On 29
th
and 30
th July 1991 there was an excessively heavy rainfall in Narkhed
(About 355 mm) and in the catchment areas of Wardha River in Betul
(About 400 mm). Clay Dam on Wardha River at MOWAD was taken away by a flash flood. In few minutes only, the whole MOWAD town was submerged under water.
Light, electricity, communication system collapsed.
Hundreds of lives lost
Thousands were injured
Thousands of hectares of crops and orchards were damaged.
Objectives: -
Quantitative analysis of damages resulted and rescue operations.
Public health and Sanitation
Army Assistance
Mobile Laboratory and medical assistance
Supply of Food
Relief teams
Evaluation of losses and disbursement of assistance
Rehabilitation
Planning Activities in a Calendar year / an Academic year
Objectives:-
To do excellently in final year exams (> 75%)
To Attempt GATE exam to score > 95 percentile score
To participate in Extracurricular Activities
– Sports, Cultural , Election
To carry out excellently Final year Project, Case Studies Etc
To Prepare for Group Discussions, Personal Interviews
To attend classes,
practicals
etc
Resources: -
Concentrated Hours, Diluted Hours, Rest and Recreation
Planning for normal day, holiday, and vacation and festival days (sports festival
–
social gathering) Scheduling
“
personal activity plan
”
only gives guidelines and allows an individual to keep track of deviations from expected plan.
Updating and periodical monitoring of personal schedule plan is possible.
Quantification of tasks and goals
Assessment and Evaluation of Resources
Superimposing short term plan over long term plan is desired.
Optimal
utilisation
of valuable human life span can be planned.
