2. HVAC technicians install heating and cooling ventilation systems
3. I worked at the 2013 -2014 Canadore residence for my co-op placement
4. HVAC technicians work hand in hand with mobile crane operators
5. Mobile crane operators transport mechanical roof top units to be installed
6. HVAC technicians instruct the crane operators with hand signals from the roof to lower the unit on the roof
7. The HVAC technicians are responsible for the careful placement and installing of these large units
8. The rooftop unit once its finally mounted and secured to the building
9. The secure rooftop unit with have rectangular ductwork connecting it to the duct shaft
10. One of the most interesting work pieces was the vertical duct shaft descending from the roof
11. Before installation of the duct shaft all duct work must be assembled by hand/power tools
12. My job was to assist in piecing together the two individual pieces of duct work
13. Trade specific hammer and drive were used to hold the two pieces together
14. A pneumatic hammer power by a compressor was used to bend the ¼ flange to “lock” the duct work together
15. To start the duct work we installed The first rectangular piece of duct that butted up to the rooftop curb
16. Some obstacles were encountered
17. I help was underneath the duct holding it while the duct work was connected by using drive cleat
18. As the duct work descended from the roof it tapered to increase the flow of air travelling downward
19. I was given the job of attaching two 5 foot pieces of duct work plus tapper by using the drive cleat and hammer
20. While attaching the duct work it needed to be constantly straightened to maintain the proper distance from the wall
21. Three pieces could be attached before scaffolding had to be removed while we went to the next floor
22. When the duct shaft reached the ground floor code specific fire damper sleeves were installed in the sides
23. After those large jobs were done each individual unit had to be piped on every floor
24. In total 128 residence units were roughed in with 6” & 7” pipe
25. For the rough in portions the pipe goes from wall boxes to either a range hood or an exhaust fan
26. My jobs during this prosess were to help assemble pipe and tape 5’ lengths of insulation
27. After all 22 units were piped my job was to make 44 boxes, 2 per unit
28. After the boxes were installed we would move completely off the floor and do that process all over again for another 6 floorsMy final job was to clean all the material off the floors and move up with the other two workers The job is now in the finished stage and I have completed my placement with Bernard Rochefort Ltd
