Slide2This is your first experience with high school final Exams…
So it is imperative that we go over the expectations and guidelines for the last 3 weeks in January
Slide3Let’s start by making ourselves aware of what the January exam schedule looks like…
Slide4January Exam Schedule
Here is our January exam schedule
This will prepare for you next year, when you are in grade 11 and in a semestered system
There are a few 10-level final exams in the schedule, mainly for
semestered
French Immersion and IB students. For these students, please see the Grade 11&12 EXAM PPTThere are no regular classes from January 13 - 31
Slide5STUDENT EXAM NOTES
EXPECTATION for ALL STUDENTS Write their exams at the scheduled time
See your teachers if you have conflicting exam times.
Students with accommodations will write their exams in the Resource Room (1221) in the back of the Learning Commons.
For all Grade 12 Diploma Exams, students are provided with up to double the official posted time, if required.
Use the fitness hallway to reach your exams in the main gym on January 13-15 during Part A Diploma Exams.Arrive at least 15 minutes before the posted start time of your exam and leave the building immediately upon completion of your exam.
Slide6Important Dates
the school will only be open to those students writing exams OR Participating in demand tutorials.
if you’re not writing exams or participating in a tutorial, you will not be granted access to the building
NO Grade 10's in the school after Jan. 21 FLA 10 exam
January 30
th – no schoolMonday, February 3rd – first day of 2nd semester
Slide7“Awesome, I have no exams so this means I have a 3 week vacation…”
It absolutely does not mean that you have a 3-week vacation!
Please pull out your phone (if you have one) and login to powerschool to see how you are currently doing in your courses
No phone? Talk to your success connect teacher to give you an update on how you are doing in your courses
Slide8Are you failing, barely passing or struggling in any of your courses?
If you answered “yes” to the above questions, you absolutely need to come in to meet with your teachers for their tutorials
They have all posted their tutorial times and availability for the next 3 weeks outside their primary classroom
They might “demand” that you show up to tutorials, I would listen to their advice!
Your teachers will use their professional discretion to determine how you can best use this time to improve your academic standing
Slide9“I’m awesome, I’m passing everything so I don’t need to come in to see my teachers”
well Yes and no – you can always improve your understanding of difficult topics or concepts
Teachers tutorial times are your opportunity to get more individualized instruction on content that you might have struggled with
Whether you have a 60% or 90% there is always room for improvement
However, if your teacher doesn’t “demand” you show up and you are in good academic standing, you do not need to show up to tutorials
Slide10“Can I come and hang out at school?”
Unfortunately during exams,
you will only be allowed to be in the building if you are under direct supervision from a teacher
Exams (especially diplomas) are very stressful and we need to keep the school as quiet as possible for the students writing them
Please come in and see your respective teachers during their tutorial times but leave the building immediately after you are finished
Slide11To summarize
Although you might not have any exams, this time is critical to help improve your academic standing
You have a full three weeks to meet with your teachers (during their tutorial times) and work towards increasing your grades
If you are failing or struggling in any of your courses, you
absolutely must
come in to work with your teachersRespect your fellow patriots writing their exams and be quiet when you are in the building
Slide12Enjoy your exam break
Don’t forget the first day of the 2
