Demonstrating Water Pollution: Transcript

What kinds of things pollute the water Types of pollution what are they . Created by Capt. Walt Nadolny, SUNY Maritime College, . Department of Marine Transportation. Funded by a grant from The National Fish and Wildlife . Foundation. . We, as mariners are a significant source of the problem. By Haille Joseph Form 1 m . . Introduction. I chose water pollution because of this year‘s water restrictions and I thought that it would be fun and interesting to tie in actual events that affect Trinidad in one way or another. My main resource in WATER and in this project I plan to inform the people about how we pollute water, the MAJOR effects that will happen to ‘man’ if we continue and what water can and does for us ,just to name a few.. Water Facts:. 70% of the Earth is covered by water but only 2% is drinkable, fresh water. One . litre. of wastewater pollutes about eight . litres. of freshwater. It’s estimated that there is 12,000 km. Water Facts:. ______ of the Earth is covered by water but only ________ is _____________________water. One . litre. of _______________ pollutes about ______ . litres. of freshwater. It’s estimated that there is _____________________ of freshwater worldwide. Dr. Sireen Alkhaldi/ Community Medicine. Water Situation . 85% of the world population lives in the driest half of the planet (United Nations, 2013). . 1 billion people do not have access to clean water and almost 2.5 billion do not have access to adequate sanitation.  . There are 3 major sectors of society that cause water pollution ….. What are they?. Industry –. W. hat . pollutants does this create?. Gas. Oil. Plastics. Mining. Batteries. Radioactive materials. Negative Human Impact on Earth’s Water . By: Willow Squires. WHAT IS OIL POLLUTION?. Oil pollution, or an oil spill, is the release of liquid petroleum hydrocarbon (oil) into the environment due to human activity. Although oil spills can also occur on land, the term ‘oil spill’ is usually applied to marine oil spills, which is where oil is released into the ocean or coastal waters. Oil pollution is also caused by things like oil from recreational boating, drainage from cities and farms, and untreated waste from factories and businesses.. Air pollution . -.  Harmful gases and tiny particles (like carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide and . sulphur. dioxide) when released into the air pollute the air. The smoke released from burning fuel, from factories and not to forget the motor cars are the major sources of air pollution. . Objective- . -Identify the difference between renewable and nonrenewable resources. -Create ways to conserve resources. Key Vocabulary. Fossil fuels. Renewable and Nonrenewable resources. Conservation. In developing countries, water pollution is caused mainly from dumping raw sewage into the water supply.. In developed countries, water pollution comes mainly from 3 sources. Municipal pollution. Industrial pollution. Yuko . Yamamoto. . ami. . Sugimoto. Toyo . University. English Core II-C. January 7, 2019. Today’s talk. Cases and causes of water pollution. Harmful influences . of water pollution. Measures . against . Types of Water Pollution . Anthropogenic or natural. Anthropogenic (human) pollution. Red Tide Caused by algae bloom. There are a variety of freshwater and marine pollution sources. Types of Water Pollution . .” . – GESAMP . Definition. Impacts on living resources. Hazards to human health. Hindrance to marine activities. Impairment of quality of seawater. Reduction of amenities. Loss of aesthetic beauty. 1. Soil pollution . SOIL POLLUTANTS. Plastics. Agro chemicals. Fertilizers. Heavy metals. Plastics. Major part of global domestic and industrial waste. Not easily biodegraded. Waste plastic accumulates much thus adds to severe pollution problem.
